Votto to be suspended?

Featured Replies

From MLB:

An enraged Votto immediately spiked his helmet and made face-to-face contact with his nose, and spit, with Welke's face, before he was separated by coaches and umpire Laz Diaz. This is the second time this season Votto has made contact with an umpire, when arguing a call. I would expect a suspension is in Votto's future.

I really think this guy has some very serious mental issues.

Terrible strike zone all night then wouldn't grant Votto time. He had a right to be angry. Probably that and all the losing built up a little bit. Not a big deal IMO.

Votto can have as many mental issues as he wants. Dude is a stud who can flat out rake.

For what it's worth, I feel he had every right to blow up at an incompetent umpire, and has zero mental issues. I don't foresee a suspension.

My guess is he'll get one game.

He shouldn't be suspended.

Welke is ready for the season to end. Zone was awful. And when he ran Votto he had no reason there to do that. Votto should get no suspension. Welke should have to watch the tape and see how freakin awful his zone was. Disgraceful.

This is what the 3rd or 4th incident Votto has had like this in the last few years. Id say suspending him the rest of the season would be appropriate.

I saw the Votto at bat and it was awful. Then I went back and looked at some of the other ones. It was pretty bad.

Saying that Votto spit on him is a stretch.

What did Votto say back to the dugout right before he got tossed?

Welke's zone was terrible all night long. Saw that in the first inning. And to not grant time because of past history is absurd. Welke should be the one receiving a suspension.

And I don't think Votto made contact with Welke's face. He was close but I don't think he ever got him. Some saliva probably did cover Welke's face but that happens all the time in arguments.

He told the dugout that he asked for time.

Incident like what? Where he gets ejected for arguing? So what, it happens when you have terrible umpires.

And no way would a suspension for the rest of the season be appropriate. It would be grossly inappropriate.

My guess is Welke did not grant time out to Votto under the new speed of play guidelines. Batters are not supposed to step out of the batters box on a pitch that is not swung at and cleanly handled by the catcher

Weak sauce on the part of the umpire. Votto does a pretty good job of putting his head down and raking the dirt when he is talking to the umpire in order to not show him up. As for the contact, looked like pro wrestling to me or taking a fake charge call. And he did not spit on the guy, but I am sure some was flying.

100% agree the strike zone was bad last night, but there is never a time it is OK to bump, or touch an umpire. 100% Votto touched Welke's face, with his nose, and spit. This is Votto's second incident this season, and the MLB experts are saying he'll be recieving a suspension of 3-5 games, maybe more, which sounds about right. Votto is a great hitter, but has the mental toughness of pudding.

" he did not spit on the guy, but I am sure some was flying." ??? So this IS spitting in the ump's face, by definition. He's getting suspended, period.
