A log jam at the top. Who is the real number one? Bowling Green lost, and did so in a way that has people asking if they are "that good". Is Pulaski County or Owensboro better? Where does Highlands belong in the class? Is Fern Creek sneaking up on anyone?

Pulaski should clearly be #1

Can you give us a reason why "clearly"?

After seeing Bulliitt Central live and in person this season, I am of the opinion they don't belong. Yes they're 3-0, but they have wins over Southern, Madison Southern and Fairdale. That is an incredibly weak schedule. There are at least 5-10 teams better than them in this class currently unranked.

Is there anyone out there who truly believes that they could beat 0-3 Covington Catholic?

Graves Co., South Oldham and Montgomery Co. have also been more impressive.

Heck North Bullitt might be better they both beat Southern by similar margins.

Can you give us a reason why "clearly"?

Reigning champ and have returned just about everyone and after seeing BG struggle last week there is no reason a Pulaski team that gave SC a game compared to the running clock SC put on your #4 team this past week. I just think Pulaski hasn't done anything to see them not at 1.

Valid argument. Can you give a run down of how those teams you have mentioned have done, who they have beaten, who they have lost to, ect?

Can you give a reason why BG is rated #1 ? They are not the current champions and they got destroyed last week. Pulaski Co. played a more competitive game against Scott Co., who according to the BP rankings is a better team than St. Xavier is.

1) Owensboro

2) Pulaski County

3) Bowling Green

4) Fern Creek

5) Highlands

6) Christian County

7) Southwestern

8) Graves County

9) Anderson County

10) Covington Catholic

Owensboro's opponents are 1-9 on the season. What have they accomplished that makes them #1 ?

I lean towards Pulaski County at #1 for now with Bowling Green #2 and Owensboro #3 .

I'll bite, what has Pulaski accomplished that should make them number 1? They are 1-1 and beat a team ranked 123 in the state of Indiana. Following that logic, why should Highlands be ranked no. 4? They've won 1 game against an 0-3 team.

Owensboro just beat a top 5 team in 2a in a big rivalry game, yet Pulaski should leapfrog them despite not playing.

I'm not overly impressed with Pulaski right now. They have beaten a 1 win Jeffersonville, Indiana team (and that win was against a winless Seymour team) and lost by 3 tds to Scott County. If you have O-boro ranked #3 , it isn't much of a stretch to have the Devils at #1 . Still early, things will change quite a bit over the next couple of weeks.

Pulaski at this point would be my #1 , Games with Henry Clay, Southwestern and Bourbon are the only real challenges left on their schedule.

Bowling Green #2 and will likely end the season 9-1 if they as expected beat Owensboro this week

Owensboro #3 will also in all likelihood go into the playoffs 9-1 so I don't see them slipping out of the top 3, even though except for Bowling Green they won't really be tested.

Anderson #4 we will know more about this team after the next 2 weeks going against Boyle and Franklin Counties.

Southwestern #5 I really expected the Warriors to be a lot better than they have shown so far. We will see what they are made of Oct 23rd when they travel across town to play the Maroons in a game to determine the District Championship. I would still call SW my 5A sleeper and I still would not be overly shocked to see them in Bowling Green come December.

Highlands #6 if the Bluebirds drop the next three games as many expect, do they still remain in the top 10? I think they do and should. They are playing a strong schedule against a lot of teams on and up tick this season. As long as they take care of business in district play I think they enter the playoffs as a team that no one wants to see.

North Laurel #7 will be 10-0 going into the playoffs IMO if they win the "Larkey Bowl" and will have a lot going for them entering the playoffs.

I think BG stumbled this past week. Should they remain #1 ...I believe yes because no one has done any better. It is still early and schedules will get better as the season continues. By week 6 we should know without a doubt who will be back to western in December.

I agree the win over Jeffersonville was nothing, they are trash regardless of where they are ranked or what class they are in.

The defeat to Scott Co is the game that tells the tale. That game was a one score game in the fourth quarter and instead of trying to stay close Pulaski tried an onside kick to get the ball back with a chance to tie the game. The kick failed and Scott Co recovered and drove on a short field to score. Then with Pulaski still playing for the win Scott was able to score a meaningless TD late in the game. I'm not sure another 5A team could go toe to toe with Scott County...Pulaski while they couldn't stop Scott Co, was also able to, move the ball very well against them. Unlike the HHS game where with a clock running Scott started the second half with 2nd and 3rd team kids playing they kept their starters in until very near the end and Pulaski was still able to move the ball and score against them.

Owensboro will get a chance this week against Bowling Green to make their claim for the top spot in 5A. If they easily handle Bowling Green then I would put them at #1 , but to date they haven't played a game that makes me think they are the best in 5A.
