I don't know about the wheels falling off - but to get smashed by St. X shows they are definitely not what they have been. Although their RB is one of the best in the state. My guess is they are not the bowling green of the last few years - but they have a good system and coach.

The real story on BG will be told this week whether they are a contender in 5A or not. You need to look up a new definition of the word smashed when a team out gains another but has 4 turnovers and 2 kick returns. Then down by 11 in the 4th quarter with the ball.

Smashed, whipped, lopsided loss - anyway you want it when the score is 45 to 19 - I don't care about yds if you got beat that bad. The CJ said "whipped" the BG daily news said "lopsided" - sorry you don't like my choice of verbs. St. X sacked your QB 7 times, their first play was a 99 return. THIS points to them not being as strong as the last few years.

I didn't say they aren't a contender, they are in the top 3 teams in 5A IMO. I believe it will be a tough test for Owensboro this week with most still predicting a BG win.

To each his own, but I wanted to clarify, and in the end you had to clarify so mission accomplished.

I just feel that BG has already seen it's brightest days in the last few seasons..i think the wheels are about to fall off the bus for a few seasons (rebuilding years or 2)..Pulaski is a solid team BUT very predictable..in all respect to both teams, i just feel that 5A is down this year and any team listed in the 10 can win it on any given night.. just my honest opinion tho!

What is your definition of the wheels falling off or rebuilding? Bowling Green has had four seasons since 1987 where they did not win at least 10 games. Two of those, they won nine. They've made at least the region finals all but 7 years during that span. They made the playoffs every year, and the only time they failed to get out of the first round was the one and only time I consider them to have been truly rebuilding, in 2002 when they went 5-6 (and they still managed to fight tooth and nail with Hopkinsville, losing 9-0 to the team that ultimately won the region and lost just 13-7 to state champ Boyle County). If you mean that they won't be competing for or winning state titles in the next year or two after this one, I don't agree, but I certainly wouldn't laugh at you. If you mean more, you're digging down into the realm of wishful thinking. There's too long a body of work and we have too much knowledge about what they have in the pipeline to believe that.

Great stuff as always DFire!

Who do the Dragons play this week? The Cowboys or the Steelers?

Would Purple88 or Dragonfire answer this question for me. What effect, if any, has the emergence of South Warren as a football power had on Bowling Green getting the best players into their program? Also, in the past, could you go to any school you wanted to no matter that it was not in your school district or was that just a rumor I heard? Thanks

Bowtie, DFire is much more qualified to answer this than I, as I don't live in BG like he does and think he likely has better sources for this than I.

South Warrens a football power?

Ok folks, apparently I seemed to ruffle a few feathers with my previous post so plz let me clarify my stance..BG has always seemed to put together a good team..when I said I think the wheels are about to fall off the bus I was speaking in reference to the fact that I do not believe they are the BG of the past.. i don't see a level of dominance being obtained within this group..just wanted to clear that up & apologies if I offended anyone!

Honestly it was Warren Central that took the hit not BG. What might get BG a bit is the new out of district agreement. The number alloted has lowered preventing as many students who live in the county to go to BG. It was never a go anywhere you wanted policy but before last year was more flexible than now.

Athletics wise especially football kids are not trying to go to South Warren over BG yet as BG has the tradition, history, and rings. While South Warren has developed a good program they need more time to start pulling BG's crowd away IMO. But I am positive Dragonfire and Bigblackjack can explain the hit WC has taken just from the redistricting alone.

If there is any longterm effect of the new agreement on Bowling Green, I think it will take a long time to show. Honestly, I think that it will be of minimal impact to Bowling Green. People who want to go there, they'll get there. That's basically the way it is now most places, even between the county schools. Either you move, your address "changes", you pay, etc. There's ways around it, and people that want to, will.

As Tyler mentioned, it isn't really Bowling Green that's taking the hit. Warren Central is getting gutted, and I don't think Greenwood has had a great time of it either as far as transfers. Something that gets overlooked a little bit is that South has gotten some in from Franklin as well (CJ Hayes jumps to mind).

The policy has never been that you can go anywhere you want. There was decent freedom of movement between the city and the county, but a cap has been in place for quite some time. The recent agreement is that it will lower slightly gradually over the next 15 years or so. Between the county schools themselves, it's never been that you are supposed to just be able to go unless you move into that district. Obviously employees of the district have the benefit of taking their children to any school they wish, but any other requests are supposed to be based on physical, psychological, or educational reasons, per this document (http://www.warrencountyschools.org/userfiles/1382/Student%20Services/School%20Attendance%20Areas.pdf). It's no matter. They jump schools like it is nothing. Honestly, it holds as much water as does the KHSAA policy regarding transfers. So in answer to your question, it's not supposed to be that way, but it is.

I would argue South Warren is receiving less from the Central area based on athletic reasons (though I'm sure there are some - particularly in sports like baseball), but rather based on educational fears and to be quite blunt, demographic fears. I can't verify this, only had it related to me, but I was told that either this year or last year, 42 students transferred from Moss to South Warren Middle. Most of them were described as high performers (of course, that's hearsay). I can verify that when I combed the minutes for the 13/14 school year, they listed 26 students that transferred from Moss to South Warren. Among all middle schools, Moss lost 39 while gaining 2. The two were then head football coach at Central Mike Rogers' children. Warren Central lost 37 to South Warren that year, and received 5. They were the only high school in the district to have a net loss of students due to transfers. And those were just the ones that went through the verification process. As I said, there are people who get around it that aren't reflected in those numbers. And all of that is on top of the hammer redistricting laid on them.

But I digress. After all, it's a 5A thread. I could speak all day on the fate of Warren Central, but again, as far as South's impact on Bowling Green, I'm not seeing any real evidence of it yet. And honestly, I don't really expect it to at any point in football, basketball (either gender), or soccer (either gender). All five of those have actually enjoyed larger success than ever before since South Warren opened.

South Warren best chance to compete with BG would be last season and this season. I know that Spartan folks disagree especially when the Frosh beat the Purples a couple of weeks ago. Consider this, when these kids were 8th graders last year the Purples team handled them fairly easily. Why? Little Vito is why.

I may have the Purple color glasses on but at anytime in the next 4 or 5 years they play one another I don't see it even being a close game. I'll be the first to eat crow if I have to but that is how I see it.

This is your year South Warren. Go get the ring!

Thank you guys for the info.

Gotta love them purple colored glasses. Seems to make everything look better.
