Bluegrasspreps' Class 5A Rankings 9-7-15

Featured Replies

Watched the game and there's no way BG had more yards! Maybe if you count Kick Return and penalties.... Lol! Saint X did what they wanted when they wanted... Once Saint X put their 2nd or 3rd string in BG picked up yardage but those are garbage stats... They are deceptive. That being said, I don't think BG is as bad as they played, and they have one of the best coaching staffs in the State that will make necessary adjustments prior to the Owensboro game. I would put Pulaski at the #1 spot and BG at a very close #2 . All in all 5A is way down. With Highlands being down, BG being down, and Pulaski not living up to their potential, 5A has not lived up to its preseason hype. By the time playoffs roll around, I would have to give BG the nod due to their Coaching.

I got the total offensive numbers from the Courier-journal, and BG out gained X 382-364 with 24 to 18 in first downs. When did X play their backups, BG cut the lead to 12 and had the ball, and that was in the 4th quarter.

The Bowling Green / Owensboro game will be telling for this class. I expect BG to win, but wouldn't be surprised with an Owensboro upset. Rankings could shake up in the top 3 this week. Pulaski has it's 2nd "Open" week this week. JV will play 2nd half. I don't see Pulaski moving out of the 2 spot regardless. Although I think PC should be #1 at the moment, BG will remain with a win and Owensboro will jump with a win.

Bowling Green/Owensboro will have a huge impact on rankings, Highlands has an opportunity to start their climb back toward the top of rankings (IMO..haven't seen Ryle), and Fern Creek should be a good matchup with Butler...don't know if Fern Creek has enough big boys up front. Either way these games should be good preparation for the playoffs.

I can understand the argument for Owensboro but why is Highlands above BG and Pulaski?

I just feel that BG has already seen it's brightest days in the last few seasons..i think the wheels are about to fall off the bus for a few seasons (rebuilding years or 2)..Pulaski is a solid team BUT very predictable..in all respect to both teams, i just feel that 5A is down this year and any team listed in the 10 can win it on any given night.. just my honest opinion tho!

But Bowling Green is only 2-1 only losing to a team of the same caliber as the worst of Highlands' two losses. Plus BG never had a running clock put on them. Also Pulaski County played the same team as Highlands and performed much better against them.

I mean if you're choosing based on your gut, I guess can understand that, but the evidence on the field seems to contradict it.

Please explain, evidence? :idunno:

Performance against teams of similar caliber. I would consider St. X to be roughly equivalent to Scott County at the moment. Bowling Green and Pulaski County performed better against their opponents than Highlands did.

Man 11-2 and 2-1 ranked top 3 in every poll really is hard times at BG. I'll take it. Imaging when they aren't "down".

We shall see Grasshopper; we shall see

"i think the wheels are about to fall off the bus for a few seasons". Let me explain something grasshopper. Your'e thinking of regular schools. Bowling Green has a "program". Wallace has been there 20+ years and kids come and go. He has won 87% of his games for 20 years. Keep wishing.

Interesting. We return most everyone next year including an excellent quarterback and running back. Against X the difference maker was discipline and that can/will be developed with this team, as Wallace coached teams have proven time and time again. 3 fumbles, 1 interception, and 2 special teams touchdowns are NOT an everyday event. You have to credit X for aiding in those hiccups however BG will only get better.

But yes please keep thinking that if it helps you sleep better. We like it!

Who would you take out to make room for them?

Maybe North Laurel. The teams teams they have beaten are a combined 0-9 and have been outscored 413-132. The next 3 teams they play are 1-8 and have been outscored 272-129.

Those are amazing stats given the score. Did BG have a bunch of turnovers?

Yes they did. 3 fumbles, an int on the drive in 4th that would have put them down 31-26, and gave up two special teams TDs (99yd opening kickoff return, and punt return TD). As I stated before, discipline. St. X was the more disciplined/mentally ready team not necessarily the most talented (although they are very talented this year).

Clark Payne (BG QB) was 31 for 45 with 325yds passing and 2TDs/1int
