k well guess that explains why that coach shared what he did - and then was asked to leave his young team with no adult on the bench

This just in. IF you are an adult coach on any team, anys sport, of any level - please - have an assistant - or stats person or trainer or someone over the age of - say - i don't know - 15 maybe? Please.

Tell us more about Disken and Jackson.

I mentioned Jay Jackson on hear a while back after i witnessed him going (If I recall correctly) 12/13 from three range in two games. Jay is a strong guard who like to compete with boys bigger than him. He's not going to beat anyone with his speed but the combination of skills makes him one of the top players in the area. He can get to the basket with his left hand better than any other right handed player I've seen in the area.

I was fortunate to get to coach Grant some last summer as AAU wrapped up. He's a John Stockton type player. The best way to describe him is "crafty". Contrary to Jay; Grant does not flourish for BSac like Jay does. Compared to BSac's slower pace, Grant is a much better player in a fast paced game where he has freedoms of movement and passing. Jay on the other hand does well in both.

Last summer I had several players out as AAU wrapped up. With out having a practice we entered an 8th grade event. (We were 7th) Grant was running the point and I had another sub playing the post. Before the first game we drew up a simple pick and roll offense. We went with Grant and Kevin Centers in a two guard set and Smith (Other sub) playing the high post. Grant and Kevin teamed up to run the pick and roll beautifully. Grant was able to get hit players cutting to the basket like I'd never seen. If the defense backed off from he'd drill a mid-range shot nearly every time. But what impressed me the most. When defense went to a 2-3 Grant was still able to execute the same pick n roll offense. "Crafty" is the best way to describe him as a player.

I'd love to know that schedule vs Our Lady of Victory. Those two teams had three mega battles last year. Out Lady has a really nice point guard as well. They are solid and just a step behind St.Susanna who's main 8th grade group is probably the best middle school team in Greater Cincy.

Is it true that the Current HMS 7th grade boys team is 51-0 since they came into the Middle School League as 6th graders? Someone told me that they were 28-0 as 6th graders last year. With the 8th grade team ahead of them playing pretty well with only 3 defeats on the year, I would say that the Basketball program in Ft Thomas is on the up & up.....

Yes the 7th grade school team is undefeated for a couple seasons now, but it's a school team..and Wins/Losses at this age/level - not sure we should focus squarely on that. The playing time debate there will live on forever more...& how coaches handle PT...not sure there is an absolute solution there, but yes, this class has exceptional talent (& depth), hoops handle & shooting skill & size moving forward.

BSac 8th grade team won their pool in the OLV tournament with a victory over St. Antoninus on Saturday. Based on the post by SSSGODWIN, it's a shame they only played 2 other teams in the pool because the team they did not play was St. Susanna! The bracket part of the tournament starts later this week. I'll post their next game when it is known. They won the CCH league regular season with a victory on Sunday.

What schools play in the CCH league?

Used to be:

Pius, BSac, Anges, St Paul, St Henry, IHM, St Joe Crescent Springs. Might be missing one.

Who did they beat? Score?

"They won the CCH league regular season with a victory on Sunday."

They beat St. Joe (Crescent Springs). BSac defense was outstanding. Final score was something like 46 - 16. OLV schedule is out. BSac plays Friday night @ 8p against Our Lady of Lourdes and Sunday in the CCH end of season tourney at 2p. (not sure of opponent yet since they got a 1st round bye)

The teams listed by Clyde are correct. St. Henry used to play in the league but did not field a team this year.

They should enter through 7th Grade State Tourney at KBA if it hasn't already been played.

Buzzer beater was a prayer!! 2 handed push shot from the sideline just over half court and banked it in. It was exciting and a good win for Twenhofel, but a lucky break that it went in.

Does BSac play StSussana this week?

Looking forward to a great 8th grade matchup Tuesday night when HMS plays SVA. They have played numerous times already this season, most of which have been very competitive. Should be a great game!

7th grade is this coming weekend. Playing all the schools with holdbacks makes it difficult to compete in this age group.

Yup I remember those days. Kids with beards driving to the games. Lol
