  1. 1981 team was 9-2. Best record for the Colonels for a long time and best under Coach Ray. Conner was the nemesis back then. Coaches new it. They pulled out all the stops to get the team ready. After pre-game warm up (game was at Conner), the team went into the locker room and found new blue pants waiting for every member of the team. Team went nuts! Unfortunately, not enough to overcome Conner that year. 2 losses were to Conner and NewCath.
  2. Both games are now scheduled to be played at CovCath on Friday evening at 7p. Original schedule had the Scott County game at Dixie but it was moved back to CCH when the decision to keep the lights for the remainder of the year was made.
  3. First round of PKs were taken by Stegman, Thelen, Kiely, Strange and Flesch. The match was won in the first set of the second round. That kick was made by Jordahl.
  4. Since Decker pitches, Krumps has the good sense to not play him at catcher the day after he pitches. Therefore, Kennedy catches when Decker pitches and also on the day after Decker pitches. Kennedy has great tools and a super arm. Colonels Coach Mohr is working with him on his footwork and blocking skills.
  5. Decker Schwartz pitched a gem last evening as the Colonels travelled to Harrison High School and held on to beat the Wildcats. Defense was rather shaky for both teams. France, Piccirillo, and McGuiness continue to have hot bats for the Colonels. McGuiness had a double and a triple.
  6. There are 3 senior pitchers currently in the rotation Cam, Decker and Dave Armstrong. All 3 have pitched well. Dave had probably been the most consistent and is currently 4-0. Cam started against Highlands on Wednesday which may put him a little ahead of the other two from the 'must win' perspective; however, it was also his turn in the rotation.
  7. Decker Schwartz took the mound for the Colonels last evening in Park Hills on anther beautiful night for baseball. The Colonels were led at the plate by Will Heppler (2 hits) and Nick Stegman (2 hits, 3 RBI).
  8. Kudos to Cam Pitzer for getting out of a bases loaded, 1 run in, no outs jam in the first inning. Great show of determination as he started out very slow but battled to stem what could have been a big inning.
  9. Cold and windy evening at Simon Kenton last evening saw a back and forth battle between the Pioneers and Colonels. 4 or 5 lead changes during the game. Alex McGinnis and Will Heppler started the scoring for the Colonels by going yard in the first inning. Both pitchers battled a constant, cold wind that was blowing right in their face. Both teams were also dealing with cold hands which caused some fielding and throwing errors. The game ended on a Pioneer single to center and a perfect throw from Colonel center fielder Adam Piccirillo to catcher Alex Kennedy to nail what would have been the tying run at the plate.
  10. CovCath continued their winning ways in Park Hills last evening. Stellar defense allowed them to pull out the win as the bats were silenced by the Scott pitcher that kept them off balance. Kudos to Nick Stegman for a bare-handed grab and throw off the pitchers glove to force a runner at first and to Adam Piccirillo for a perfect throw from left to nail a Scott runner at the plate in their only real threat of the night.
  11. David Armstrong pitched 6 scoreless innings of 1 hit baseball. CovCath defense looked very strong topped by shortstop Tyler Langguth's diving catch of a line drive. The Colonels again left a lot of men on base and had a early season baserunning mistake that stopped a big inning from happening.
  12. 3 good innings by CovCath's senior pitcher David Armstrong. CovCath defense was pretty strong. Left a lot of men on base. Good to get the first win of the season.
  13. Great game last night between BSac and St. Pius. BSac started off very hot and forged to a 17-3 lead after 1 period. St. Pius started playing tenacious defense and climbed back into the game and were down 1 in the final minute. BSac was able to hold on for the victory. Congrats to both teams for great seasons! BSac final stats: 31-4, only lost to 2 teams (twice to St. Pius and twice to North Pulaski County eventual state champs). Tournament champs: St. Henry Pre-season, Cardinal Pacelli, Diocesan End of Year, Ky state Elite Eight. Great year! Parents are looking forward to being able to root with the St. Pius parents at CovCath next year!
  14. BSac finishes out their season tonight in the finals of the Diocesan Tournament. Game time is 7:45 at Bishop Brossart against St. Pius. Should be a good one (understatement of the year!). BSac is looking to avenge their loss in the finals of the CCH 8th grade league tournament and to prove that their Elite Eight appearance in the KBA State tournament was not a fluke. These 2 teams have played 3 times already this year and St. Pius has won 2 of the 3.
  15. BSac came out running and gunning against Hopkinsville this morning and Hopkinsville could not adjust. They ended up beating them 77-70! With only an hour to rest before playing North Pulaski, BSac just did not have the legs to overcome the superior size of North Pulaski. Congrats to BSac for making the Elite Eight. They were supposed to play Victory in the consolation game of the OLV tournament but all games were cancelled. BSac had to forfeit their semi-final game against Pius since they were still playing state.
  16. Maher had a block with less than 10 seconds left that sealed the victory for Pius. BSac played what was probably their best all around game on Saturday night in the OLV tournament and beat a big, fast All Saints team. This was a little bit of sweet revenge for a couple of the players since it was All Saints that beat the Colonel Youth Football 8th grade team in the finals of the Greater Cincy mid-school division championship. With that win, BSac moves on to play next Saturday against... wait for it.... St. Pius!
  17. CCH tourney game will be at CCH. OLV tourney game will be at OLV (Our Lady of Victory)
  18. BSac plays St. Pius for the CCH 8th grade league tourney championship on Sunday at 2p. Dick Maile coaches St. Pius. He coached the BSac team to this title when the current CovCath seniors were in the 8th grade (Heppler & Massey are the only ones left playing). BSac also put on a dominating display of defense and beat Our Lady of Lourdes in the OLV tournament last Friday night by a score of 43 - 28. Next game is Saturday evening against All Saints.
  19. BSac 8th grade team is heading to the KBA Ky State Tourney the weekend of the 14th. Any other teams heading down?
  20. BSac plays Our Lady or Lourdes this week in their first game of the bracket portion of the OLV tourney. St. Susanna is in the lower portion of the bracket; BSac is in upper.
