Stat Keeping Software

I use The Automated Scorebook for Football STATCREW.COM - STAT CREW SOFTWARE it only runs on Windows 32bit ( I use my MacBook running Windows 7 on Parralels). It costs $400 for initial purchase and upgrades are $165 yr (not required). It has a learned by curve to start but once you've used it awhile it is pretty easy. I've used it since 1999 for semi-pro, Arena2, and high school. I am at Fern Creek now, previously at Manual, Atherton, Southern.

This is the same software used by NCAA, also Trinity, Male, Central use it as well as all the Lexington area schools thru WL Stats, that company also does the state finals

Hudl Stats thru the Tag A Game feature is really improved especially the tablet version. It still isn't as complete as Statcrew but gives you most of what is needed for media, khsaa. Things that we use in Statcrew that aren't on Hudl stats are drive charts, play by play reports, a lot of the more in depth team reports and game by game comparisons, and to combine seasons for career stats. One bonus for Hudl for coaching staffs is that using it for stat already gets the basic game info into Hudl to speed up game break down

I tried using two different Ipad apps, Iscore for football, and one other whose name I can't remember. Both were terrible....hard to use, not intuitive, etc. On paper they seemed great, but functionally they weren't great. In the name of price, I simply use an excel spreadsheet that I created that tracks both game and team stats for individual games and tabulates for the whole season. I enter the info by hand after recording the stats by hand while reviewing game film. It's very basic, but it serves its purpose for my basic needs.

I have been checking out Digital Scout, it is a free app and allows you to upload to Hudl and Max Preps. It doesn't seem as easy to use as Hudl but provides more in depth stats, very close to what Statcrew provides, including season and career totals, drive charts. If I didn't already have so much experience with Statcrew would consider this

I use Iscore, and while I will agree that it was difficult at first and definitely not intuitive, after working out the kinks I think it works pretty well. I have a spotter who writes down the yard markers and numbers of players involved in the play in case I need them, but I have gotten good enough that I usually don't need him unless there is a flurry of action and I get caught up in cheering.

Overall I would give the app a B- and would suggest tracking a scrimmage or a game from video before using it live.

I have been using Digital Scout for years for Covington Holy Cross. It is free. I use an iPad to capture offense and special teams. The high school game is too fast to record tackles and other defensive stats live, but I add them in after the game from film. I can provide stat reports at halftime and postgame for the coaches. Digital Scout added about 10 new reports this year concerning team tendencies. Stats and play-by-play go live to the Internet (although, unfortunately, fans need a paid subscription to view them live). After the game, stats are complete and freely available to all. There is a tie to Facebook and Twitter to provide live updates on each score and at the end of each quarter. There are exports to Hudl and Maxpreps. It is the program of choice in Ohio - everybody seems to use it. In NKY, I know Walton-Verona, Simon Kenton, and Covington Holy Cross used it last year.
