September 1, 201511 yr The U.S. Supreme Court is partly to blame for this mess. In the 5-4 Hobby Lobby decision, the court emboldened people to say no to the law based on their religious beliefs. So we shouldn't be surprised when fundamentalist Christians extend that principle to other areas.
September 1, 201511 yr 1) Rowan Co will have to pay for at least all legal bills. 2) Hobby Lobby is not a government agency, Rowan Co is.
September 1, 201511 yr Man, she is just in too deep. This really highlights the problem with Davis imposing her version of her religious views as a government actor. I really don't understand why she doesn't just step down. The best thing that could happen to her is if she was somehow relieved from her duties so she doesn't have to go back on everything she has stated. At the same time, I don't really want her to be able to feel like some sort of martyr if this were to happen. I just really hope that the citizens of Rowan County or Kentucky don't have to pay for her reckless behavior and hypocrisy. To be honest, I wonder if she is being played like a pawn by the Liberty Counsel people. I've dealt with them before and they raise any issue they can for the public eye and the donation coffers.
September 1, 201511 yr To be honest, I wonder if she is being played like a pawn by the Liberty Counsel people. I've dealt with them before and they raise any issue they can for the public eye and the donation coffers. That would definitely make sense. They can't do anything without an actual plaintiff. I'm probably off base, but I fear that when everything is settled Davis will have everything paid for from this group or even a gofundme page then make money by appearing at rallies or on talk shows while the people that voted her into office and the individuals she is screwing over will be left paying all these unnecessary legal bills.
September 1, 201511 yr Fines won't work in this situation because there's a movement that will donate money to her to pay the fines. IMO
September 1, 201511 yr Motion for contempt has been filed by Plaintiff's. last line of motion "PLaintiffs do not seek to compel Davis' compliance through incarceration. Since Defendant Davis continues to collect compensation from the Commonwealth for duties she fails to perform, Plaintiffs urge the Court to impose financial penalties sufficiently serious and increasingly onerous to compel DAvis' immediate compliance without further delay." September 1, 201511 yr Why is there not the same lawsuit filed against the Casey County Clerk? All the gay people probably left Casey Co. as soon as they could once they were old enough. Morehead is different in that it is a university town. University towns tend to have vibrant homosexual populations as they are usually much more tolerant toward gays than your typical small town.

Still think they should be going through the process of removing him from office as well.

September 1, 201511 yr @WDRBNews · now3 seconds ago Kentucky clerk, deputies who won't issue marriage licenses called to federal hearing Thursday . Interesting that the deputies are being called to the hearing as well. Assume the Clerk hires (and can fire) the deputies. I am guessing if they face stiff fines (or jail time) and have the protection of a Federal Judge ordering them to do something, they'll knuckle under and start issuing certificates whether Davis instructs them to or not. Davis has the spotlight, the attorneys and the GoFundMe campaigns to pay her potential fines. Not sure the deputies have any of that. Also, if Davis gets incarcerated and the Judge Exec ("in the Clerk's absence") instructs them to issue certificates and they don't do so, can the Judge Exec fire them?
September 1, 201511 yr ^ possibly to tell the deputies that if they comply with her instructions that they too will be held in contempt and go to jail as well? It sure will be interesting.
