Federal law trumps state law. You would think these politicians would understand that.

The slope continues to get more slippery. I hope it passes. Then I'll get my senators to propose a bill that says I can sleep and watch Netflix at work all day long because manual labor is against my religion.

It's not legal if it passes, but it won't pass. So I'm not worried. Let the reps grandstand and feel good about themselves and whatever they want. If it makes it out of committee, I'll be surprised.

Cops pick and chose what traffic laws they enforce all the time. Do you also feel that they should start pulling everyone over for going 1 mph over the speed limit?

Hypocrisy at its finest. No sanctuary cities/states unless we are giving sanctuary to something in our religious wheelhouse.

Sorry but that's a horrible analogy. There's multiple reasons cops don't pull people over for going 1mph too fast and it's not like they completely ignore enforcing speed limits. The feds seem to be enforcing the laws leadership agrees with. The fact is if you are going play the federal law trumps state law card, then you need to enforce all federal laws. Not just the ones that make your party happy.

When the federal government chooses what powers to use. In this case, they are using their power to prevent discrimination. They are not using their power to pursue pot laws or immigration policies.

 

I think I've solved your issue.

There is a term "police discretion". At any given time (as there are humans involved) an officer makes a decision over what violations he/she will enforce. This concept exists at all levels of enforcing laws or legislation and often blows with the wind of media or popular opinion when politics are involved.
