This is very true. Bowden had the advantage of no 27/7 scrutiny so it was never uncovered and brought to everyone's attention as it has for Fisher. His players were hardly model citizens. Florida is so football crazy that the fans of every school down there will gladly turn a blind eye as long as their program is winning. Start losing and punishing bad behavior (Muschamp) gets you fired.

That's problem tied to all of college athletics and in particular, college football. Not just FSU/Florida.

The only thing you could fire Jimbo for is if he is caught sweeping crimes under the rug.

 

I don't know how you punish Jimbo for his players crimes unless his promoting them to do it.

Saw a report on ESPN this weekend. Don't remember the exact number, but a very very high percentage of the football team could not qualify to be at FSU if NOT for being a football player.

I would say there a few kids at every school that get a chance because of their ability to play.

 

I know I am in the minority when I say this, but it is diffcult for college coaches to pass on kids that may be potential issues because of the reward out weighs the risk.

 

College coaches get hired and fired based on wins. So until they stop firing coaches for losing I think we will always see coaches take chances. Look at the mess Urban had at Florida.

Agree with everything you said. I think the point the report was trying to make though was that an extremely high amount of "non-qualifying" students are recruited to FSU to pay football compared to other large universities. That's what I kind of took from it anyway.

Gotcha. Do you have a link to the article. Reason I ask because I am curious to read how kids are able to get into school that dont qualify. I know they did away with the Old prop -48 rule. But schools are getting around it be having kids enroll in January.

It was a report on ESPN with some talking heads discussing the issue. I think it was on Outside The Lines yesterday if I'm not mistaken.
