No one on here that participates in the cop bashing will be swayed. It's the same posters that have been bashing for years. No matter what, the cops will always be wrong in their eyes. A couple of bad apples and it's literally "police in this country", etc. They have too nice of equipment, cars, etc. it becomes "glad my tax dollars are being wasted on new cars, there's not enough crime to justify it". They get paid a decent salary, it's the same response. If there's a crime wave, it's "I pay their salary and they're worthless, and can't catch bad guys". If one makes a mistake or is a knucklehead, them it's "police are held to a higher standard".

Bottom line, take a small salary, with outdated equipment, leave everyone alone but "the bad guys" and you best be perfect.

I don't think I've heard anyone on here say any of that.

 

Most that are critical of them will readily admit that they know it is a very large majority that do things the right way.

 

I think, at least for me, the main point of contention is that when incidents do occur, rare as they may be, it's important that it be brought to the forefront of conversation and put in the spotlight. That's the only way we can address any issues and figure out what we need to do to continuously reduce the number of incidents. It'll never be zero, because cops are human just like everyone else, but we can always strive for that.

I'd like to see the statistics on drug trade activity in each country as well. I bet the numbers for citizen shootings and drug trade activity correlate well.

I assure you, I hold myself to a much higher standard than anyone in the public holds me. Maybe that's why this thread is so frustrating for me, is I just don't see many bad cops, and if I do, they are out of the field very quickly.

I certainly agree police officers should be held to a higher standard, then again so should politicians, because the politicians are in charge of the police officers.

Because if you want to lure the cream of the crop of people in the work force to be cops, you got to be willing to pay them what they're worth.

I have seen it...there are cultural differences. We Americans are a rowdy bunch by the standards of many other nations, and it is culturally acceptable if not sometimes desirable to challenge authority and challenge the status quo. This is not the case in many countries. I spend a lot of time in Germany and by their nature, there is a high (almost unhealthy) level of respect for authority.

I am 100% in favor of paying more taxes to pay cops more as long as the people who are being chosen for the jobs are meeting the higher standards. Absolutely.

Again, we agree.

We were a violent society many moons ago and were a more violent society today. Now everyone has a Facebook and cell phone cam to capture it. Add that in with the fact that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer and you have a lot of upset unstable people.

No because I don't think an entry level position in LE requires that much nor do I think paying more equals better officers.
