I'll have been out of HS for 30 years in a couple years. I've felt no need to go to any of the reunions with my HS. I keep in contact personally with my closest friends, and if I want to see any of the others, I can just hang around my hometown a few days. Most all of them are still there.

About 23 years ago I went to an Encyclopedia Britannica booth at the Kentucky State Fair. They were giving a free medical book to anyone who visited. Of course, they were trying to sell their product - but on CD; not the massive tomes that I grew up with. Cost was something approaching a grand. They tried and tried to get me to sign on, but I finally convinced them that I was after the freebie and nothing else.

I think vibrant library systems have managed to do a good job finding their niches while being versatile enough to offer a wide variety of programs to help keep folks and their kids coming in the doors.

 

Don't underestimate the free wi-fi and computer access as a drawing card for those who can't afford them.

High school was close to 500 miles from here. I never went to a reunion; haven't seen a single classmate since 1978. I do have infrequent contact with a couple of them via social media.

This morning I was thinking about the fortunate fact that the internet has not replaced physical books. I like that. I'm glad there is a phenomenal amount of literature and information not on the internet, materials we still have to physically pick up and read.

 

The internet has rendered the evening news obsolete for me.

 

Same here. I will buy books at thrift stores and yard sales. Tried th avatar's reader and didn't like it. I guess I'm old-fashioned - my house is full of books, and I spend a lot of time with a real book in my hand.

X-mas/Birthday cards

 

Man, Christmas Cards are still a thriving venture at my house. Both going out, as well as coming in. We hang the ones we receive on the cabinets in the kitchen (usually about 110-120) and my family spends half of Christmas Day in the kitchen looking at them all. The best thing is about 80% of them are photo cards nowadays, so they are better to look at than a random winter scene or some cheesy card from the 90's.

I was going to post almost the exact same thing. Almost all photo cards from Walmart or Walgreens Photo departments with a few cards with actual writing/updates in them.

Hardcopy paper MAPS...I love when my sexy british female tells me where to turn, when, and what "attractions" are in the immediate area if I need to know the closest restaurant, gas station, etc...

Having to mail in payments on debt.

 

Unfortunately as long as I have a city utility bill the mail will continue.
