June 5, 201511 yr There isn't a team in baseball willing to take on Votto's contract, much less give back any value in return. Trading him would be nothing more than moving the albatross contract, and that isn't happening either... True. Although you might find one of the big money teams willing to give a little something for him and not try to force the Reds to eat some of the contract. But primarily I just threw Votto's name out there to make the point that I am open to trading anyone if I could get value, even the best player on the team.
June 5, 201511 yr If you were to line up every Red on the roster(including the pitchers), Meso to me would be the least looking like a left fielder. His body build and foot work just don't fit, maybe if I see him out there I may change my mind. He just looks like a catcher, would hate that to end for him I believe he has above average wheels for a catcher. It is an experiment for sure, but worth a try. I put him out there if he can do it. Then once the record makes it clear the team has no chance for the post season, shut him down and get the surgery.

June 5, 201511 yr This rule is so stupid, I cannot stand it. Baseball was played for over 100 years with the rules in place and because Buster Posey gets hurt, it needs to be changed? There is NO WAY that the runner can be ruled safe there. He was out by 10 feet and the catcher was waiting for him. It looked like the ump was saying to Sandberg, "he was obviously out and I called him out but because of this insane rule, the guys in New York called him safe...nothing I can do about it"...
June 5, 201511 yr Yeah, if I were Sandberg I would file a protest on that. Even if I was pretty sure I would lose, I would protest just to have the chance to talk about how bad that rule is. At some point common sense has to come into the decision making.

June 5, 201511 yr I like the idea of testing Mesoraco in LF. If it can't hurt him any further than go for it, all it can do is make him that much more valuable to the Reds in the long run. He is still young and needs to be getting all the at bats he can regardless of if the season is lost or not, if he can do it than I want to see him out there.

Not sure that I care very much, but I do think they will eventually put a chalk line coming off home plate toward 3B and basically say to catchers "You can't be on the dugout side of this chalk line on a play at the plate unless you have the ball." That is basically the way they are interpreting the rule now anyway. Would be helpful to have the visual aid to give the C guidance. (And will force the grounds crew to remark it every half inning!)
June 5, 201511 yr Chapman looked angry last night. I really liked the attitude. It was like "Yeah, you guys got me last night. You're not getting me tonight. Have some of this!" Price made the point in the post-game presser that when Chapman gets you 0-1, he is very difficult. (While 1st pitch strikes are a key stat for all pitchers, with Chapman it appears critical because it keeps the batter from begging for a walk.) Also, did anyone else see BPhil's post-game interview with Jim Day? Gave him a "cup check" on the way out. Funny!
June 6, 201511 yr Some of you guys crack me up. Lets trade Votto and Phillips because they are the only "true" professionals on this team. Last night's loss and the night before fall squarely on the manager IMO. Last night, Leake had thrown well over 100 pitches and there was no need to run him out there in the 9th inning. Let someone start fresh in the inning and take your chances. The night before, if Chapman is the man everyone thinks then he pitches the 8th inning. This team cannot afford to give games away and they have done that 8 to 10 times already. Todd Frazier is a hack, pee poor plate discipline and has no clue in the box. Jay Bruce is just about as bad. Have some discipline and awareness. Watch the approach Votto takes at the plate and learn from it. You're correct. Plate discipline has been a problem for the Reds for years now. I'm beginning to think it will never get better.
June 6, 201511 yr For those upset about plate discipline, here's this tidbit: Jay Bruce is drawing a walk every 6.677 plate appearances this year. By far the best ratio of his career.
