I am all for making strategic moves and dumping players like Cueto that you know you can't afford. Frazier is one of the best bargains in baseball right now based on his production and contract. Why trade him? Keep the young, productive players you control for as long as you can afford them. Trade older players who are soon to be free agents that you can't afford.

I think you keep Votto, Frazier, Mesoraco (see if he can play the OF in the offseason though), and Hamilton as far as position players and Lorenzen, Iglesias, and DeSclafani from the pitching side of things and make everyone else available.

I agree with that and I don't just dump guys to dump them. I work deals for value. If you can't get a deal for value and you are getting top draft picks if the player goes free agent, then if that is the better value so be it.

Sure, but that will be 2017/2018 when you hopefully are competing again. Why get prospects/picks then when you can use those now to build on? Like you said, he's one of the best bargains in baseball. Who wouldn't jump on a guy whose under team control through the 2017 season? But even if they get a deal on Frazier he will still get paid and you'll have a large portion of salary invested in a 34 year old, and two 32 year old players. The point is his value (production, contract, age) will likely never be better than what it is right now. If your building a team for 2017, use him to help do that.
June 4, 201511 yr Price has said that Mesoraco is beginning to work out in the OF in hopes that he can still play this season. Said specialists have said that he would be ready for 2016 if he waits until offseason for surgery.

Don't get me wrong. I would trade Joey Votto tomorrow if I could get great value back. But I don't think the Reds have to trade players like him There isn't a team in baseball willing to take on Votto's contract, much less give back any value in return. Trading him would be nothing more than moving the albatross contract, and that isn't happening either...

I may just add one more name to the keep list(Cozart). Not his biggest fan, but don't know of a whole lot of free agent SS to go after that hit and field, unless there is someone in the farm system. Other-wise, everything spot on.

If you were to line up every Red on the roster(including the pitchers), Meso to me would be the least looking like a left fielder. His body build and foot work just don't fit, maybe if I see him out there I may change my mind. He just looks like a catcher, would hate that to end for him
