May 30, 201511 yr This. I started at HHS in in 1978 (37 years ago) and have never heard one person complain about the name ever since. I love it because it is different...we don't need any more Cats, Panthers, blah blah blah...and it does not seem to offend anyone either (like Braves, Rebels, Redskins, etc)... The mascot used to be a controversy. When the school started, they were called the "Devils." Sometime in the early 1900's, the church going crowd thru a fit and the name was changed to the Bluebirds. Ask someone to show you the mean bird.

May 30, 201511 yr Is that the official Bluebird? Interesting. Bandaids on one shoulder. An X on the other. Medals? What are those on there for? I have to say the whole thing is pretty darn interesting now that I think about it. First of all, who even comes up with Bluebirds as a nickname? Then that stuff on the logo. We need the rest of the story on this whole deal. I think we can make this thread go at least 200 posts (as long as uk stays interested). Whats is with the Red stripe on the helmet?
May 30, 201511 yr Red is the 3rd and kind of hidden school color. Used to be more visible on basketball uniforms can still see the red with the football cheerleader uniforms. To much tradition to change it now but IMO pretty weak mascot

May 30, 201511 yr I get the sense that not everyone, present and past, associated with Highlands High School is completely thrilled having "Bluebirds" as their team name. Let's be honest, in a world of Cougars, Eagles, Panthers, and Jaguars, it's at the bottom of the predator scale, unless you're a worm. It is semi-unique and there is a long tradition, but it's not like there's a geographical reason to keep it (like Pioneers or Colonels) Are you OK with "Bluebirds" or would you change it? And to what? I would upgrade to BlueJays - still unique and keeps the blue part. Ok, I have to ask this so don't get offended. I get the feeling you are trying to up your "thread starts", "post", "likes" or just plain and simply bored. Are you serious with this question? That is a serious question, Seriously! Why in wild wild world of sports would Highlands or their alum or current student body want to get rid of the mascot Bluebird? Bahahahahaha again we are talking about the Bird! Got to love it!

June 3, 201511 yr For some reason I love the mascot name of the Bluebirds. It's original and when you hear it you know who is being discussed. Stay golden, Bluebirds. Word up. As a guy whose mascot is named the Purples I think it may be easy to see why I respect the originality of the Bluebirds.
