The geographic center of kentucky is listed as 3 miles northwest of Lebanon, ky. Bowling green is 95.3 miles (southwest) of Lebanon. Lexington is 63.8 miles north east of Lebanon. Louisville is 66.6 miles northwest of Lebanon. I stand by my argument...even though I might have overstated the southern-ness and western-ness. I apologize. :)

So BG is a half hour's drive further than Louisville or Lex from dead center? Shoot, I didn't realize that as I figured it would be a lot different than that. For that piddly difference and to have a better atmosphere for the players and fans I say leave them at BG!

It would ideal! It was there before....Highlands has played and won in Richmond....1977 was the year I watched it there. Remember it like it was yesterday. Very bitter cold!

How many locations has the championship game been played at and where

 

I recall UK,EKU,Lou Fairgrounds,Papa Johns and WKU, any others?

 

How many programs has won at every venue besides Highlands? Need someone to do one of those stat thingys, miss my boy Birdsfan...:thumb:

It also looks like in the original set-up when Jefferson County was a championship upon itself A and AA were played at the old Stoll Field at UK.

WKU is absolutely the best location for the football state championship games. UL and UK stadiums are entirely way too big. The cities of Louisville and Lexington would not open their arms up the way Bowling Green has. Louisville had their chance. The only draw back from what I understand at WKU is the visiting locker-room space.

If they had the games at EKU I think more people would go to the games.

Here are the years/sites. Abbreviations: H-S = Houchens-LT Smith; Bowl. = Bowling Green; PJCA = Papa John's; KFEC = Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center; the omitted field for EKU was Hanger Field; Manual is venerable Manual Stadium in Louisville (capacity has varied but Manual football site says >11,000 seats). The first 1A and 2A games were played at Stoll, the 3A game (except for 1960 forfeit) at Manual. 3A began as the class for Jefferson County so 2 sites made sense. I am working on attendance figures.
