I'd also be willing to bet that if the HS football players in the state were polled on where they'd like to play the championship games, WKU/EKU would not be the top choices.

 

At the same time, I don't think it would really matter one way or the other. So to act like the venue is ONLY about the kids is inaccurate, IMO.

Westerns facilities are perfect, but it is in the southwestern corner of our state.

 

We have the basketball state championship in Rupp arena...a very large basketball facility. Just saying.

I've enjoyed them being in BG but I think a rotation would be nice.

As a Lexington native I selfishly want them to be at Commonwealth

Far Southern yes but the state is not real wide. Far West...hardly, BG is barely in WKU bordering Central

I have been to titles games at UK, EKU, Papa & Cardinal stadiums in Louisville and WKU. Size wise WKU hands down and from where I live WKU is closest but I did enjoy playing it at different venues. I recall how cool it was watching games at UK as a kid as a UK fan that was cool. I hope it stays at WKU but would not be upset wherever it is played. If I had my way, Murray State would get it once in awhile. On second thought, I wouldn't want it at Murray, great facility for it but it would not involve the road trip pilgrimage that is a neat part of it

I played in a state championship and couldnt have cared less where the game took place!

 

Bowling green is definitely not central ky.

 

I guess my point is, host the game in the most centrally located venue you can find.

Why?

 

Neither are big enough. Parking sucks at both.

In discussing this with some of the staff @ the KHSAA during my time as an AD, actually they prefer to spread them around the state to make it more inclusive to areas in some of the further out regions. Sure, it makes it difficult to have a home base in Lexington & host throughout the state, but it is nice to see different venues being used for Championship Events.

All the locations bid on hosting the finals. I guess that Lexington is undercutting the competition on the bidding process is all I can figure. I am being sympathetic that the KHSAA has to look @ the $$$ factor in decision making as well.
