September 8, 201511 yr I'd take the $6 million and run before they changed their minds if I was the family, but thats just me. There's no doubt they were going to get paid, even if the accused are not guilty in the criminal trial. I'd take it and run too. I was thinking if they were found not guilty that the family wouldn't get any money but OJ still had to pay in civil court. I forget the results of a criminal trial doesn't matter in civil cases.

The city stated in the settlement agreement that this award is ONLY for civil side of it and not in any way an admission of guilt by the officers. So the trial is still going on. Family will receive half of the settlement now and the other half in a year.

I thought this was a very quick settlement...the city must have thought the risk of multiple trials would escalate that amount, I'm not sure.
May 23, 201610 yr @justin_fenton BREAKING: Officer Edward Nero acquitted of all charges for his role in arrest, death of Freddie Gray #NeroTrial I haven't really kept up with this case. Can anyone touch on this? Was this expected? What about the other officers?
May 23, 201610 yr @justin_fenton BREAKING: Officer Edward Nero acquitted of all charges for his role in arrest, death of Freddie Gray #NeroTrial I haven't really kept up with this case. Can anyone touch on this? Was this expected? What about the other officers? From what I read the main charge was assault. Prosecutor said it was assault because it didn't meet the standards of a legal detention. The claim is he only actually touched Gray once. Legal analysts were skeptical of the prosecutor's theory/logic. Bench trial instead of a jury trial. First office tried had his case end in hung jury.
May 23, 201610 yr Seems he didnt do anything but arrest Gray. Was the drivers job to buckle him up. That was the defense. Well lets see if the riot will begin. Officer Charged in Freddie Gray Case, Edward Nero, Not Guilty on All Counts - NBC News
May 23, 201610 yr So far two have went on trial so far correct? 1 a hung jury, this one not guilty. Correct.
May 23, 201610 yr Its 3 blacks and 3 whites on trial. So far. 1 black.. Porter was a hung jury. Porter's second trial is scheduled for June 13, 2016. Analysts stated that the Porter's retrial could have caused problems for the other trials, under the presumption that he could not be compelled to testify while there are pending charges against him.[75] After several appeals and reversals, the Maryland Court of Appeals ruled that Porter will be required to testify in the cases against the other officers.[76] Officer Porter's retrial date is scheduled for September 6, 2016.[77] 1 white, Nero was found not guitly.
May 23, 201610 yr Weren't the first trials the ones that the prosecutor thought would be slam dunks? Didn't they also need these guys (after conviction) to testify against the others in exchange for a possible sentencing deal? So far prosecutor is 0-1-1. After the Mayor's comments though I have no doubt that even though he has been acquitted this officer will face the same outcome as the innocent officer in Ferguson.
May 23, 201610 yr We want violence and looting in the streets now. 2 cops and so far no convictions. We want violence now. I mean at least the media does, especially msnbc, that's about all they can show on he news is the old riots, guess if they show it enough it will get the crowds going again for a good night of violence and looting. At least a lot of people on twitter think so. And I don't doubt he media don't want it to have something other to talk about besides the election and cover up crooked Hillary and how bad she is doing rt now. May 23, 201610 yr I read that this officer chose to have the Judge hear the case instead of a Jury, probably a good move on his part. It came out in trial that the only time the officer touched Mr Gray was when he was looking for his inhaler. If that is true, than it is a shame that he was indicted to begin with.
