I'm not sure I feel comfortable putting Danville on the list, because it's been awhile for them. But they're the next in on that list.

Another group I'd be interested to think about, along with old and new money, would be future money. Who is on the cusp of being top tier?

Doesnt Danville have more championships than EVERY team on your new money list?

Uh, yeah. They obviously would. Are you suggesting they belong in the New Money group? Because they're not at all.

If Bowling Green is new money then Trinity is also. BG has more wins than Trinity and a much longer tradition than Trinity. Trinity has more titles but they haven't been around that long. Kind of like Mark Cuban. Just because they have more titles doesn't mean they automatically become more rich in tradition than everyone else.

BG and Trinity are both old money.

Boyle County is new money. Danville is old money.

Danville has 10 titles and top 10 in all time wins and they are omitted? Seriously?

The problem with calling BG old money is that all of their titles are from the past twenty years (most of them from the past five). While their totals wins are nothing to sneeze at you have to consider their whole record: 654-330.

It is only recently that BG has actually become dominant enough to qualify as either type of 'money' thus their inclusion in the new money group.

I agree with you on your other statements, though.

Johnson Central has racked up wins in dominating fashion but until they get the hardware they are not legitimized as being worthy of being called "Elite". That is the key word in that description to me. ELITE.

How in the good Lord's name does Johnson Central even get a mention here?! They have less Regional Championships than Warren friggin' East...do they even have a signature win against a school in the same class or higher in their history? I get so sick of hearing about Johnson Central...the slayers of the three legged Billy goats from the Mountains.

Of interesting note...of my nine New Money teams:

FIVE are private

One is a military school which is different from a public school

One is a Magnet school in Louisville

Boyle and Belfry are the only two that are basically a common public school in KY

Of my seven Old Money Schools

...only Male has been the benefactor of a special designation. The rest are simply KY public schools.

...perhaps we see a trend here of where the best players are going as time passes.

Danville is definitely Old Money. You dont win 10 titles, and 3 runner ups, and not be considered. They haven't won a title since 03 and lost a Helluva game to Newport Central Catholic in 06. They're also top 10 in in wins. I will go out on a limb here and some may agree and some may not, but if Danville would've stayed in 1A they would have more than 10 titles!

This. This right here.....is perfect.

Titles shouldn't be the only measuring stick. You can still be rich and have old money and have more money in the bank than 99.5% of your community without ever being the richest person in the community.

Simply put, The Smiths may have been the richest folks in the community since 1902 and The Johnsons may have never had as much money as The Smiths nor been as successful as The Smiths but The Johnsons still have more money than 99.5% of all people in the community since 1902. That's Bowling Green High School football. They may have just recently elevated to a higher level but that doesn't mean they weren't always sitting at the grown folks table.

Eh, that analogy doesn't really work. Anyway, I do think titles should be the main measuring stick, because they show when a team has risen to the top of their class in a certain year. Bowling Green didn't even make runner-up status until the past twenty years (94, 05, 06, 07).

Beyond that I compared their past ten years win records, with their total win record. In the past ten years Bowling Green has a 123-17 record working out to an average of 12.3-1.7 per season. Their total win record is 654-330, so removing the past ten years, that becomes a record of 531-313 which averages out to a 6.4-3.7 per season.

Certainly Bowling Green has been playing football for a long time, but what major successes or records do they have in the past that would qualify them as 'old money'?

My sources were http://khsaa.org/records/football/statefootballteamrecords.pdf, http://khsaa.org/records/football/pastwinners.pdf, and Calpreps.com If I have made any mistake in my information/calculations please let me know.

You're supporting the context of the post I was making.

Johnson Central does not belong on any of these "Money" lists but have been one of the winningest teams in Kentucky the past decade. I was simply pointing out with that post that wins does not equal being elite.

As for the second part of your post... great list to compile and love the name dropping.

I was trying to think yesterday who we would consider to be the "Kennedy's". Old money, prominent money, but with their fare share of controversies.

KENTUCKY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ALL-TIME WINS LIST

1. Fort Thomas Highlands: 868 Wins

2. Louisville Male: 844 Wins

3. Mayfield: 833 Wins

4. Paducah Tilghman: 757 Wins

5. Danville: 742 Wins

6. Louisville Saint Xavier: 731 Wins

7. Owensboro: 713 Wins

8. Somerset: 665 Wins

9. Ashland Blazer: 659 Wins

10. Bowling Green: 654 Wins

Totals current through the 2014 season

Definition of "old blood".

This seems like a pretty good "Old Money" list... Somerset may have to be removed b/c they have no championships.

I am curious why you qualify St. X as 'new money' and Bowling Green as old. I understand the argument for calling Trinity new (though I don't agree with it), but calling St. X new doesn't make sense. St. X is older than Bowling Green (1917 vs 1922) has a higher total win record (731 vs 654) and has won state titles since the 60's (1962-2009 vs 1994-2013).

I'm really confused by your logic here.

Pretty Good List, IMO.

I would like for somebody, anybody, to explain to me how state titles matter in old money when for the first 50 years of football in this state there were none?
