For me it came down to total wins.

Somerset has no titles

 

Ashland hasn't threatened for a title in 20 years.

 

Bowling Green hasn't planted their stake for winning it all until the 90's

 

 

 

When I think Blueblood I am thinking the elite of the elite and schools who have been the elite and continue to remain that way. Though those programs have plenty of wins... their resume simply does not match up.

 

Bowling Green to me is like a well to do family that never made it big until they finally invested their inheritance into the Dot Com boom. They may have rubbed elbows with the elite for years..but they were not accepted into their company until much, much later.

 

Using a similar analogy Boyle County is like Mark Cuban.

By that definition Trinity would be new blood.

 

Given the fact that Trinity was founded in 1954 though I would venture to guess that has something to do with it.

By the definition of what you posted in your first post I stand by what I said.

This is the part I have to respectfully disagree about.

 

Wins are great..but Bowling Green's lack of a foothold as a Championship Contender make them prime "Newblood" to me. No doubt they have earned their elite status since the 90's twice over... but in the case of both BG and Somerset lack of hardware to show for all those wins decades ago has to be taken into account.

You picked the wrong quote. "The programs who have been elite for the longest time and remain relevant to this day?" is the parameters you set for old money and it applies to BG. By definition a team with top 10 wins can't be new money and not have tradition of yester year.

I haven't mentioned new blood at all but it would be silly to think only 10 teams are old money.

Wins aren't the preeminent way to define being elite.

 

I think the world of Coach Haywood... and he is the State's All-Time wins leader.. but not sure I would consider him even a Top 5 coach of All-Time.

 

Johnson Central has racked up wins in dominating fashion but until they get the hardware they are not legitimized as being worthy of being called "Elite". That is the key word in that description to me. ELITE.
