ATLCat Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Who would you consider the "Old Money" of Kentucky High School Football? The programs who have been elite for the longest time and remain relevant to this day? Who would you consider the "New Money"? The Elite programs of the recent era who may not have the rich traditions of yester-year.
lawildcat Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Go Birds! 100 years and still going strong! :angrybird12:
Voice of Reason Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 The big question here is what is old and what is new? To be old money do you have to go back more than 20 years, 30 years? Is new money the last 5 years, 10 years, 20 years? Better define that to make it more clear cut.
ATLCat Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 Bluebloods/ Old Money: Highlands Trinity X Male Mayfield New Money: Beechwood Boyle County Belfry Bowling Green Central NewCath CovCath Now the ones that require some debate.. how do you classify: Danville- Has the Past Decade hurt their elite status? Ft. Campbell- Has recent history hurt their status? Manual- One would think "Old Money" but the success doesn't support it Breathitt County- Does their imminent future effect their standing Bell County- Does their lack of Finals appearances prohibit them?

I am curious to see how everyone defines it or justifies it themselves

I am curious to see how everyone defines it or justifies it themselves I think your breakdown is pretty good. I would probably draw the line between new and old at around 1985, the 30 year mark. I would put Danville, Ft. Campbell and Manual on the old money list. Other teams you didn't list that should be considered: Corbin, Bardstown, maybe Russellville.

Nice programs to contemplate for sure... I am still not sure if Manual deserves to be held in such elite company as the rest though. LexCath is another interesting program...I want to say "New Money" but their trophy case doesn't substantiate it.

Hatz Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I would make an argument for a Danville as Old Money. Long, long history. Many titles. Many different coaches.
thehotsnakes Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Old Tilghman Highlands Trinity St. X Mayfield Male New Bowling Green Central Belfry Boyle Cov Cath New Cath I'm not sure I feel comfortable putting Danville on the list, because it's been awhile for them. But they're the next in on that list. Another group I'd be interested to think about, along with old and new money, would be future money. Who is on the cusp of being top tier?

ATLCat Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 ^^^ Great question Johnson Central, Pulaski County, John Hardin, and Scott County are the names that immediately pop in my head with a chance.

Bowling Green has been playing football for really close to 100 years and are around top 10 on the all time KY wins list.

Which could mean folks putting them in the New Blood (money) could be because of more exposure/talk. That could also be a result of technology. 30 years ago a lot less people would've known about Bowling Greens recent success let alone success during that Era.

That makes no sense if there is an old blood category. The 2 categories are the subject of the thread.
