May 20, 201511 yr I've never watched regularly but I've always enjoyed his style. Been watching every night since last week and the sendoff has really been something.
May 20, 201511 yr I always loved when he had Warren Zevon filling in for Paul. He was a huge fan of Warren and so am I.

I think the last time I watched Letterman was the episode Zevon was on not long before his death. I used to watch his show back in the NBC days, but found it to be less and less funny after the switch to CBS. In general, I find the late-night talk show format to be stale and not particularly funny. However, there was a neat piece on Grantland the other day by one of their writers who started out as an intern with Letterman many years ago. Lots of great stories, especially the one about how he got it set up for Drew Barrymore to flash Dave on his birthday.

Did you ever watch when Warren was filling in for Paul for a couple of weeks? It was priceless.
May 20, 201511 yr I have never watched a late night show in well over 20 years. Carson was still on the last time I did. Just hasn't interested me and I go to bed too early.

I hardly ever missed Carson. The others just don't hold a candle to Johnny. I do find O'Brien pretty funny.

Back in the day when I had a show on Appalshop's WMMT in Whitesburg, I would play a Zevon song of the week as a tribute while he was in his final months.
May 20, 201511 yr Dave quit being funny years ago. He is a legend though and I will be tuned in. I love Jimmy Fallon, I think he's awesome.

May 21, 201511 yr For those that plan to DVR it, they have said it will go "really long" tonight so might want to record the show or 2 after it scheduled.

I've heard many say that and most in my family liked Johnny Carson a lot more. Either way, I thought Letterman was okay. He undoubtedly leaves a legacy behind.
