Fairdale's new stadium -state funding

The school that really needs a football stadium do-over is PRP. That place is a hazard.

It appears to me that most of the people bashing this are private school supporters. I guess they don't want any public schools to have a new nice stadium. Maybe they are scared that it will take away one of their selling points when out of the recruiting trail.

Interesting how a public school supporter takes that angle. So I guess all public school supporters encourage fraudulent behavior.

BTW - I'd like to see the schedule when every public high school is going to receive $300K for a new football field. Sorry, I meant a community center. What a joke.

If it will help the community and the little leagues and all that, I don't see the big deal about it. Besides, it is $300,000. That is chump change out of the state budget. I'm glad for Fairdale!

There are worse things I'd fear to see my 8 cents go to.

However I didn't actually pay because I don't live in KY, however if anyone from Fairdale would like me to, I'll donate a dime.

Looks like I hit a nerve. Figured I would.

So I guess you have all the facts to prove that this is fraudulent behavior. I like to see exactly how this bill reads and even then I'm sure that any rep worth a darn would have done enough research to know what the money is being used for, If they are so gulible that they are able to be duped into voting for something that they wouldn't support than they shouldn't have a vote in the first place.

Most public schools I have been to already have a pretty nice football field, so maybe not all public schools need to be on the schedule. Good for Fairdale, I'm glad they were able to fill a need. By the way Owensboro High School is getting new turf this summer to the tune of 700k and I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure most if not all of the money being used comes from public funds, so again lets gripe about that also. I'd like to see the schedule when every public high is going to get turf.

BTW, If your so certain that this was a fradulent act, maybe you should contact the Attorney General's office so a full investigation can be completed. Maybe the rep. who sponsored this bill should be impeached.

But it's not just their prerogative. How did the reps that voted to give them the funds see it? I'm guessing they thought it was for a "Community Center" using the most traditional definition possible (ie a building), not a football stadium for a high school. Let’s be honest, this is not a community center. IMHO, this is a fraud committed against the state tax payers. I expect F’dale will not see much in the way of perks from the state for a long time because of it.

I'll admit, the description of this project as a Community Center is a bit of a stretch on the conventional notion of what a Community Center is. But by the same token, if the place is used extensively for non-school community recreational functions, the end result will be not much different than building a dedicated stand-alone community gathering place with sports facilities. And it is the responsibility of state lawmakers to understand what they are voting on (they do, after all, have opportunities for floor debate and to have questions answered regarding pending legislation).

If you are ticked off that this passed, why don't you vote your own elected state representative out of office for not paying enough attention to the appropriation of your state tax dollars. Oh wait, since you're in Tennessee, exactly none of your state tax dollars went toward this anyway.

Thanks for all the input. Glad I could post a thread that created some reaction.

This will not be used extensively by the public. The Fairdale youth team will play their games on this field. They practice on grounds elsewhere on the property. Soccer won't be an issue as Fairdale High has no soccer team. This may be a way around title IX.

There is no building to be used as a communty center going up.

There are no community track meets per se. I believe each public school in the Commonwealth should ask for their $300K.

The city of Louisville will be kicking in some funds as they move tennis courts from one area to another on the Fairdale High property to allow for a field house to be built. Fairdale has two gyms already as basketball is traditonally king in Fairdale country.

My point is that full disclosure should be made of how "our" tax dollars are being used. This is "state" money, not simply local funds.

When is the funding for the football stadiums at Atherton, Iroquois, Moore, Southern etc. coming through? If they are not all getting funding then none should.

Welcome to the big time, Fairdale! If All Tell has chosen to single you out as a program that receives special benefits from the taxpayer, you have arrived!

FWIW, which ain't much I'm sure...

I don't have a problem with Fairdale getting the money. If the facility will be used similarly to PRP's baseball field is used, there's no issue.

I think it would be nice if some of the "neighborhood" schools could share the facilities. I think Iroquois would be a candidate to possiby share the facility. In the overall scheme of things, they're not too far away.

I agree to a degree with AllTell about the schools he listed as needing funding for such projects. I think that Iroquois would be a great location at which to place a community facility. I'm not sure the same idea would work at Atherton, given their location. I wonder if Moore and Southern could maybe work out a partnership, or an Okolona community situation.

Just tossing out ideas.

Oh, and 02Ram, I appreciate the academic prowess of the Manual students, and what the school offers to it's students. However, do NOT demean the academics of Trinity. I'll put the academic programs offered there up against Manual anyday. But I'm also extremely proud that Trinity succeeds in offering a quality education to ALL of their students, regardless of their standardized test scores. The mission of Trinity is not to only educate the gifted, but to educate all that choose to attend.

As for Manual's stadium, there's no question that the facility is steeped in history. But at some point, money is going to be needed for updates. I hope that the alumni and boosters are prepared to open their wallets.

 I was just joking with your partner in crime. Tony was poking me with a stick, I was poking back.

There is a fund raising program that has been going on a few years now which many of us have donated to.

However I am curious as to what improvements people want to see in Manual Stadium. I've been to almost all of the Jefferson County stadiums except for the new St X and Trinity stadiums, and I don't get the sense that it is run down or in need of drastic renovation.

I don't want field turf, the consessions are covered, there are visitor locker rooms, it has a great score board, the feild was replaced not that long ago and is better maintained than most, I feel like the dim lighting is a homefeild advantage due to our running stlye and dark red jerseys, it has one of the best press boxes, and there is a row of covered bleachers on the homefield side.

Short of luxury boxes I don't see what people want.

Lighting will eventually become a bigger issue.

The stadium is not "run down", but it will eventually need repairs, upkeep, update. I don't think RM meant immediate need, but future need. It's short sighted to think of only what you need today.
