I don't know if you're aware, but Male is a public school (It wasn't clear from your post that you understand that).

 

Regardless of the mechanism underpinning the funding of public schools (based on daily attendance, test scores, whatever), the bottom line is that the schools that were claimed to be underserved by the school system are in fact provided with more resources per student than the so-called public elites in many important areas. I never said this was inappropriate (indeed, given the school system's responsibility to provide education for all, you would expect some schools to require more resources than others). I just wanted to point out how ridiculous it is to claim favoritism toward a few schools when, in reality, almost every other school in the system receives more resources.

 

Yor right I must have been having a brain fart the other evening:creepy: . I know that Male is a public school I just got into that public vs private mindset and went into a rant. Schools that need more funding than the state allocated SEEK can and do recieve extra federal fuding from grants like Title I. I want a new sports facility for my old high school. How do you get funding like this? Do I need to ask my state representitive, this is great, people do not need new computers in the classroom, what would that accomplish, why spend money in the academic areas, let's build a $300,000 new community center. That will serve the people well, instead of using it on technology, renovating old schools, that could not serve the people well.

Final, serious question, has anyone been down south where, 80% or higher of people are unemployed, could not money been used to help with this situation?

A public school with no residential boundries, selects and admits 100% of their student population, and can tell students to leave whenever they choose. Yes, Male "is" a public school. Ha!

When Iroquois, Atherton, Moore et al. get to cherry pick the best students then they will be on equal footing to the Males and Manuals. Simple as that.

What are you talking about. I don't know what area your are refferencing by "down south" but I am quite sure that you will not find 80% or greater unemployment anywhere in this country. Money in the state of Kentucky should stay in Kentucky. Besides $300,000 out of a state budget is chump change. If you want to complain about using school money to combat unemployement "down south" maybe you should start in Texas where $20 million high schools stadiums are being constructed at an ever increasing rate.

Larry, if you are in the know, then I guess we will have to disagree.

 

I will stand by those points that I made as fact.

 

Male has NO resides clusters. Most schools have a cluster from the west end and one surrounding their school. Male does not. Most schools have to accept a student into their school 1. if they live in their resides areas or 2. if they are kicked out of another and live in their resides cluster. Male does not. Therefore, Male's administration admits 100% of their students on based on middle school academics and attendence. If students are not up to their standards they CAN and are often asked to leave and return to their "home school".

This has been a pretty interesting debate. I dont pretend to know everything...BUT...i think there should be some clarification on this whole Male thing in regards to their enrollment policies.

A few years ago, you will recall that Male had a major crop of talent coming in and out of their halls and out on the football fields. For those who pay CLOSE attention, the overall talent is starting to dwindle. Anyone want to take a guess why?

The reason is (and you can call Bob Redman and ask him): There were some "private" schools in kentucky who raised enough complaints of an unfair advantage that Male could take students who did not previously live in Jefferson Co and go to Male (Anyone remember Tony Driver?). Yes, some public schools complained...but they have been doing that for years but nothing was ever done. (Weird, isnt it?)

 

So now...the new rule states that Male can not take any student in that is not already enrolled in the traditional program. So Male doesnt have the "pick" of the litter anymore...the enrollment rules dont apply as they used to and the playing field has been leveled.....YEAH RIGHT!

A couple of points - We have one child at Male and another child in non-traditional. We have applied for our second child for traditional and have not been successful in getting him in. The process for the Traditional Schools works by application and the School Board does the assignments. Jefferson County students not in Traditional program can choose which High School they want to go to based on the Magnet program of the school not on cluster. A child can be asked to leave Male HS or Butler HS if they don't abide by the Traditional Program discipline code. There are only two true Traditional program schools in Jefferson County - Male or Butler. All students in Traditional Middle School feeds into those two schools. Hope this helps.

So you think that the public schools handi-capped Male at the request of the private schools? Really? I doubt it. It has more to do with the development of the feeder system into Male. Not as many loopholes as in the past. The progress of other public schools has had its effect as well. Yeah, the JCPS powers stepping up to save the poor ole privates from big bad Male.:lol:

I am happy for Fairdale, that schools needs a bit of good news. There were a solid football team in the late 80's and early 90's and I am not sure what has happened since then. Maybe a nicer facility could increase the #'s on the football team.

Why shouldn't a public school receive public money, as far a "community center" language, who cares what you call it is increases community pride.
