May 16, 201511 yr Have some concerns about moving the arc to 4 feet from 3 feet. Will there be more defensive blocks called? I don't know about defensive blocks but if it gets closer to my dream of never seeing another charge called I'll be a very happy fan.
May 16, 201511 yr With you on that one ALL THE WAY. Poor decision to do this I think. Also do not like taking away the coach called time out during a live ball. Coaches shouldn't be able to bail out players and allowing them to call time outs during a live ball does just that. So glad this rule change is happening.
May 16, 201511 yr It's a small sample size but the 30 second clock only produced 1 point per game during post season action.
May 16, 201511 yr I hate hate hate the elimination of the five-second closely-guarded call. The defender is no longer rewarded for playing great defense. That's crap. Dont matter. Back to back National Championships #bookit
May 16, 201511 yr Quick take on the new rule proposals: Removing the 5 second while dribbling call goes hand in hand with the reduction of the shot clock from 35 to 30. No 5 call in the NBA either, because there isn't time for idle bouncing. 10 second rule seems to be a poor choice. Allow the 10 second rule to restart after a dead ball, but keep the shot clock intact. If a team wants or has to waste 18 of their 30 second shot clock to cross mid court, they have to play faster thereafter. Not a fan of moving the arc to 4 feet. If you want to remove the charge from the game, then do it. Removing it foot by foot is stupid. Rules seem to be a bit of a overreaction to me. Every game doesn't need to end 81-80 to be a good game. Fans can always go watch hockey if they don't like the product. Seems like half a cop out to me. What's lacking most in the college game is players with ball skills. Make a wide open 14 foot shot, have five guys on the floor who can at least make the next pass, put guys on the floor who can at least dribble it twice without a turnover coming. All would go a long way to making the "flow" of the game better. I'd put part of the rule change issues back on the DI coaches. Either recruit better "players", or actually teach the "athletes" you recruit to have some sample of ball skills
May 21, 201511 yr I heard talk about the shot clock getting shorter and how it could hurt the offensive production. Thinking is that now a team will pressure the ball more up court causing the offense to waste time. By the time they get to the front court and get into a set there will not be a lot of time to get good options ie take the first decent look you get. I think there is something to that.

A lot of teams will copy what UL and UC are already doing. Apply moderate to max pressure full court, drop back into a match up zone and force 30 plus rushed shots a game at the end of the clock. If you don't beat the press, odds are you will be taking a shot with the clock under :05. Every time there has been a change to add or shorten the clock, scoring has gone down...

That's what I seen Duke doing in the tournament. Full court pressure and barely any time to run the offense. It worked.
May 23, 201511 yr I don't know about defensive blocks but if it gets closer to my dream of never seeing another charge called I'll be a very happy fan. So get the ball at the top of the key and simply bounce it once or twice and run down the lane like a bull in a china shop then 2 giant strides (or a "crab dribble" if you're LeBron) and dunk the ball? Yeah! If you can't establish defensive position and make the offensive player stop or go around you, what is the defense supposed to do? Of course, I would like to see the block / charge call made correctly and consistently. For my $, the focus needs to move off of "was the defender set?" and to "who initiated contact?" for the call to be made.
May 23, 201511 yr – Elimination of five-second closely-guarded call – Eliminating coach-called live ball timeouts 3. Move restricted-area arc out from three to four feet. Do not like any of these at all. As was said, the incentive for ball pressure is eliminated. Also (I'm one of the few) I like charges, I think they can make or break a momentum burst. – Allow instant replay of shots made after shot clock goes off If this rule were in effect last season, my team would have won our last game... Grrr :banghead:
December 9, 201510 yr Thus far scoring is up about 5 points per game. There has only been an increase of about 2 fouls called per game.
