Bill Simmons is Out at ESPN...What Happens to Grantland?

Featured Replies

ESPN has decided against renewing Bill Simmons. Guy had the stones to call out the NFL, and the idiots in charge of ESPN have gotten rid of him because of it.

What's going to happen to Grantland at this point? Simmons created it, will he take it with him? It's a far superior product to any of the crap ESPN routinely trots out there.

I have seen Grantland a couple times briefly and had to turn the channel. It is not quite as unwatchable as Keith Olbermann, but pretty close. Simmons did not work for me

The latest NFL stuff was just the straw that broke the camels back. Simmons is incredibly talented, but he's also a whinny, petulant child most of the time. It wasn't enough that he had a multi million dollar deal and was basically management. He couldn't resist making things difficult for his bosses as often as possible. There was a detailed article on Deadspin from right around the time he called Godell a liar and got suspended that details a lot of it...

Never assume you are bigger than the brand if you don't own it...

Can they fire Rovell and Gottlieb too and make this day even better?

Grantland isn't the TV show. Its the website, which is very good, and covers lots of topics. The TV show is just shown occasionally.

If ESPN can fire him from his job at CBS Sports, I'll be surprised.

I thought you were describing yourself for a second there.

I wonder if Simmons has enough to juice to take Grantland out on its own? It gets lots of hits, but part of that has to be its front page location on ESPN.com. Would he go to Fox? Are there any other options that it could realistically link up to?

Shots fired...GT is gonna break out his howitzer.

Problem with his suspension is that he was right. He called Goodell a liar saying he knew more about Ray Rice than what he was saying and the report proved Simmons to be correct.

It wasn't that he called out Godell. It was the tirade aimed at his bosses daring them to punish him for it...
