6a is harder. 5a will be much more entertaining and fun I think though

6A only because of the big schools in Louisville.

5A is more

competitive even before this year.

I think you are over thinking the question. Consider this comparison to make a decision.

In any given year your team has made the final four in either 5A or 6A. For argument's sake let's use Cooper High School as your team. Which path is more difficult.

5A Final Four: Highlands, Bowling Green, Covington Catholic, Cooper

6A Final Four: Trinity, Male, St. Xavier, Cooper

If you are Cooper, which class is most difficult to win the title, 5A or 6A?

In 5A Cooper would have to beat two of Bowling Green, Highlands, and CovCath.

In 6A Cooper would have to beat two of St. Xavier, Male, and Trinity.

6A

6A has more

teams from Louisville that make

it very tough. 5A only has really 2 teams that could

be considered juggernauts and that would be BG and HHS. Also

out of the 3 other teams you listed in 5A there is ou 1 I think would have a good

chanve in beating the big 3 you listed in 6A and that would be BG.

I agree with Guru that it is 6A by a landslide. Owensboro (and Collins before that) proved that you can compete with Highlands at the end of the title road. And, that was in Class 4A. In 5A you add BG to the mix with CovCath. Then Pulaski Co. and Southwestern will both have good teams this year. Highlands is likely the slight favorite over BG for the title but if any of those teams beats Highlands I wouldn't be surprised based on what we've seen from Collins and O'boro in the past.

In 6A, you have T, X, and Male and usually one other public school out in the state that is very strong. After that there is a MASSIVE drop off. Heck, last season if we ranked teams in all classes many people would have ranked Trinity, Male and Dixie Heights as the top 3 teams overall. And, we saw what Trinity did to Dixie in the state finals. There is just a huge gap between the top 6A schools and the rest.

And, based on another comment above. I think it would be easier for Trinity to win the 5A title than it would be for Highlands, CovCath, or BG to win the 6A title.

Dixie would be ranked behind Manual and St. X as well. The super district was exactly that this past season

I'll say 6A because Trinity is in that class. Outside of the Rocks thgh I really think Bowling Green would beat the rest of 6A more then they would lose.

Winning Louisville is the toughest part of 6a. After that there is a bunch of mediocrity. I think 5a is deeper now with the recent additions, but Louisville 6a has the best team nearly every year.

Dixie would be ranked behind Manual and St. X as well. The super district was exactly that this past season

I would agree 100% that St. X should be ranked ahead of Dixie, but honestly, I'm not as sure about Manual. It would have been interesting to see those two teams play. I also wish Highlands and Dixie would have played so we could have seen a direct comparison there.

Anyway, to address the original question, I would actually say 5A is proportionally tougher due to the tournament set-up. Unless you have the misfortune of drawing into the same quarter bracket that contains the big four of Louisville, then you only have the face one of those (and probably Scott County) to win the the title.

Now if we are talking overall toughness, not proportional then of course 6A would be tougher, it's a higher class.

Chuckle, four years against St. X wouldn't prove you wrong. Though I'd love to see BG renew the series with Trinity. I heard there was bad blood between the coaches or athletic directors or something, but I hope they can resolve that.

Dixie would be ranked behind Manual and St. X as well. The super district was exactly that this past season

I think that is fair to say. Manual was very good this past season. They didn't get the statewide recognition due to their district-mates.

But, I still say a lot of people would have ranked Dixie 3rd due to how they dominated most everyone on their 13 game win streak. That muddies the water a little bit in trying to compare 6A schools out in the state to the powers in Jefferson County.

Trinity doesn't win it every year.

That's what I was thinking. They have only won it 23 times. I mean what the heck!

PepRock beat me to it. You have to mention Manual in the 6A discussion. May have been the best defense the Rocks faced last year with amazing talent on both sides of the ball. Please don't forget about Ballard, Butler and PRP. If you look back, you will see how deep each team is making it into the playoffs. I personally don't think any of them are an easy "out" from week to week. Just don't want the conversation to be about T, X and. Male....I would love to see what Ballard, Butler and PRP would do in 5A. PRP in the state finals just 3 years ago and stepping up to play Trinity this year.

I have to say 6A.

I saw both Dixie and Manual last year. Manual would have won any other district in 6A last year and it wouldn't have been close and they went into the playoffs seeded 4th. IMVHO they would have beaten Dixie by at least 2 scores if not more.

Neither...3A coming out of the Western bracket is the toughest feat
