NYPD Officer Shoots At Dog In Middle Of A Crowd

Featured Replies

A group of police officers were attempting to arrest someone in the Brownsville neighborhood in Brooklyn. They had the wrong house. When they attempted to enter the home they released the occupant's dog. The dog ran out onto the sidewalk and excitedly jumped up on a police lieutenant but did not attempt to bite him or anyone else. Another officer immediately drew his weapon and fired a shot at point blank range. The shot missed and ricocheted off of the sidewalk. There was a crowd of people gathered around to watch what was happening--including children. This caused several people to angrily yell at the police for firing with so many people around. Luckily no one, not even the dog was hurt. No word on whether the officer that fired the shot is facing any disciplinary action.

I love when it is caught on video. How did he not hit the dog. It was point blank.

That was incredibly stupid. Thankfully no one was hurt.

And he's a terrible shot. Hopefully he no longer has a firearm...

Kind of embarrassing for the officer. Using poor judgement AND missing a target that close. All on video too! Wonder if he was a rookie?

I would be curious to know from out BGP police officers...the dog was inside his home and got loose when police came to the door. He didn't look particularly aggressive, but even if he was, can the police shoot a dog like that? The dog is doing what he is supposed to do. On the other hand, no one wants an officer hurt either.

Good grief... That guy was all kinds of wrong.

Can you imagine if he had actually killed the dog? Or even worse, killed an innocent bystander?

Why do they never use the taser on dogs? That's not a premise to a joke, I'm must wondering why they automatically go for the gun?

Probably the same reason they automatically go for the gun on people... Whatever reason that may be.

Most criminals pose a much larger threat than a dog I would think.

Taser probes spread out when fired, a dog in most cases is a small target and there is little likelihood that both probes would hit a dog. If both don't hit there is no connection.

I'd think Pepper Spray would be the first line of defense against a dog, Prior to an Attack, to ward them off.

Who says police don't use tasers on dogs sometimes? Do you think the incidents with police involving dogs that you read about online are the only incidents with police involving dogs?

Who's they? And do you think they always go for a gun in every situation or what?

Otherwise, when "they" do go for a gun...Its probably because they're afraid someone is trying to kill them...wouldn't you say?

I have no idea whatsoever.
