Then what positions are they in because all I hear is that they don't like the coach or he is playing girls over other girls. That is a coaches decisions not a parent, do I agree that all coaches are fair no but neither is life sometimes. I am sure they are good kids and theory have good parents but they them work through the tough times.

You have a coach that also coaches a "select" team of which 4 to 6 of the girls play on. Add to that the fact that one assistant coach is also an employee at the coach's business. Do you now see all of the conflicts of interest here. You can say that there are none, but favoritism rules supreme, thus you have kids not coming out to play.

 

I will give you a tidbit from last year. Coach says that Mandy Arnzen of Notre Dame is overrated and that there best player is so and so. Well last I checked, Ms. Arnzen is playing soccer at the D1 level at Ohio U and played this past club season for Jon Pickup. Ms. Arnzen dominated that regional soccer game and pretty much did as she please in the middle of the field. My daughter had the pleasure of competing against Ms. Arnzen the two years prior and simply laughed at the fact that a "select/high school coach" said that she was overrated and that someone that he was more familiar with was their best player.

There is another assistant who has a kid also, 7 coaches kids all together.

What Sr did you see starting? I see 4 starting and good chance 5, maybe 6 if he starts his daughter.

All this and nobody has touched on the personal/ethical/integrity/potential safety issues. Probably not the right place (here) for those....But that, I am told, has been a factor in some decisions as well. Truly a disappointing situation. AND for those that will want to say that parents should voice their concerns to the coach and AD....That has been done by multiple parents.

It took me a while to find his "select" team to see if they were any good. I found them in the State Cup and they performed very well the last three years against 'club' teams. 2nd place in state cup, 4th place and then looks like they lost a game in pool play this year and didn't advance.

They played in the KPL league U16 division. I'm not sure why but they are a U15 team in the State Cup. But what was impressive is they actually won the u16 KPL division this year as a U15 team.

 

Again, you are trying to distort things and "not talking about the kids" but the last I checked you are directly talking about the kids. Or is it the coaches that are called "select"? Man, let it rest.

Everyone knows that soccer in the state of Kentucky is not very good as a whole. What top "club" teams did this team play against? Was it against Javanon or LFC top teams? Who were the top club teams in this KPL? I will answer that for you, no and none. The best soccer to play at the age these kids are is the MRL at a minimum and the best of the best play in the National League or the ECNL, not the KPL, the Buckeye League or CUSL.

As I'm reading that I'm hearing just about ANY football coach telling his team that HHS is overrated and that (insert team) is better... That Veneman wasn't as fast as people say and (insert DB here) can take him... That if they put pressure on Hoge he'll crumble. That (insert LB here) hits harder than Murray.

I can hear just about any softball coach telling his girls that Haley Smith is overrated and (insert batter here) is going to light her up.

Telling their pitcher that Graybill is overrated and Shelby won't be able to touch her...

 

Isn't that what coaches are supposed to do?

*Arnzen or Nemo is phenomenal and is going to tear us up tonight.

*Smith is THE pitcher. No way you are going to hit her. If you get the chance, lean forward and take the pitch in the shoulder cause that's the only way to get on base.

 

Since I am not around it, I can't really comment on whether there is favoritism in the program or not. Maybe there is. But one has to wonder how much of that is just in the players heads reinforced by their parents. High schoolers are fairly selective in their memory.

MRL teams were in the league and KPL dates bn two MRL teams counted as MRL games as well (KHA Red v Lexington FC for example). Besides being forced to join to be able to participate in the State Cup, the overall league was better than Buckeye State level.

Do not get hung up on the "select" name. It just means that the team is associtated with the club but the team handles all asspects of the team administration including finding the kids for the team, deciding who the team's coaches are, who handles the teams training, and somewhat deciding what league the team plays. It does not mean that these kids are less skilled than those on acedamy or club teams, as many assume. Often these teams grow out of local rec teams that want to stay together and play at a more competative level. The select team you seem to be refering to, I believe, has been together for at least 5 or 6 years. Picking up a players along the way.

Last year was the 1st season for the Kentucky Premier League. Again, MRL teams (think Javanon, KHA Kentucky based teams, LFC) HAVE to play in the KPL to be eligible for the State Cup. This was new to last season.

 

As for Kings Hammer, "Select" means that the coaches of the team are not part of KH's staff. They are volunteers. Can be parents or whatever, and those volunteers pick their own team. That is different than similar ages of NKSA and other groups. Additionally, the HHS coach that everyone bashes was named the state's top "Select" coach in 2013 by the Kentucky Youth Soccer Association.

The guy can coach, this proves it. His team made the finals of State Cup and the Final 4. I do not know what each person on here has against the coach. I have ideas. I do not believe that his coaching ability is one of those reasons. Personally, I think that this makes HHS look bad. Other schools air coaching grievances on here, I've never seen Highlands as a school that does it that way.

Did they not make to the semi finals of the Region last year losing to the state's runner up. HHS had a very good year last year playing a very good schedule, he can coach you cannot deny that. I know he would not risk losing to play one player over another he is there to win period.

Well, you have 2 previous HHS player on OE's high school fall league team and 2 more previous HHS players that were on the KHA U-17 state cup semi final team this season that have decided not to play for HHS. That team must be REALLY good if these players are deciding not to play because they wouldn't see the field.

 

Again, I am a big fan of all of the girls and wish them nothing but the best.

I would agree, if we knew that that was their reasoning. No one has really said why they have chosen not to play. Certainly if they are playing at that level, the staff at Highlands would not be playing inferior talent above them. Would they?
