This a new season and there is no room for this garbage again. Keyplayer you took a synopsis of a team and turned it into a bashing session as usual. Bring some knowledge to your post about what these teams have to offer in NKY. Tell us about some key returning players or some sleeper teams. I don't want to hear your beefs about a coach. On that note, it should be a great girls soccer season in NKY as usual. Only a couple of months away. It has been a pleasure discussing and debating with some of the posters here on the soccer forum. The issue(s) with Highlands remain. We will see how "loaded" they are for the future, compared to some other teams, soon enough....FYI- Taylor is not replaceable. Particularly when you have quite a few, seniors to be, that have contributed at the varsity level in the past, deciding not to play this season, and/or again this coming season. It is a shame in my honest opinion, that quality senior players that have contributed at the varsity level in the past and played at a high club level (and will, or potentially, play at the collegiate level), would decide not to play their senior high school season because of a coach. Too many issues, perceived, or not- conflicts of interest, inexperience, lack of leadership/sound decision making ability/physicality/actual knowledge of the game/ability to separate professional/personal feelings and personal/professional relationships (player and coach), for this team to do anything significant this season in my opinion. ND is the team to beat provided they can overcome their own issues. Campbell county will have a quality team as will NCC(particularly with their goal tending and returning backs). I expect Ryle to be in the mix as well. ND should be the class of NKY this season though provided they can overcome some infighting there as well.

And you do have a conflict of interest as well do you not? Well said Keyplayer, you beat me to the punch. Probably delivered it more eloquently than I would have, but the points are well taken. To say that there are not conflicts of interest throughout the program is turning a blind eye and/or a deaf ear to what is going on. Hopefully the new AD pays attention and listens to things that are being said rather than trying to brow-beat the people that are saying them.

Thoughts on NCC, Simon Kenton, and Campbell Co?

Highlands will need to replace their leading scorer and team leader in Taylor Vaughn. They also loose half of their starting defense. The main thing is that they are returning all of their starting midfielders. This is the key to this team because they are the motor that makes things run. Goalkeeper is another strong position for Highlands. Highlands will be a young team but are loaded with talent for the next several years. How that talent comes together this year will decide how far they can go. Tough schedule this season as well, with several really good Ohio teams on the schedule.

 

Curious about 2 things from this post now that I have re-read it. Can you tell me why Highlands will be a 'young' team? They return their starting midfielders from last year? Was Allyson Bridewell not a senior starting midfielder last year?

Is Highlands coach from the NKY area or elsewhere? What about NCC, Simon Kenton, and Campbell County? Will these teams compete with NDA, Highlands, and Ryle?

Highlands coach is a graduate of the school. Would expect NCC to have a very nice team again. Not sure about their depth, but you only need to play 11 at a time. Campbell County should be pretty good also, but they are in region 10, so while in NKY they really do not have to be worried about by most of the other teams you mentioned. I would suspect that NDA will again be the favorite this year as pointed out by others. They do lose some talented players, but they also have a host of kids that simply had to wait their time and that time is now for some. Ryle has always been competitive, but just cannot seem to get over the hump to get themselves in that championship game.

Jack what about Simon Kenton and Boone?

Do not know much about either to be honest. SK is in the 8th region so they are viewed much like Campbell County to those teams in the 9th region. Boone always has a decent regard, but against a suspect schedule. They do have a very good goal scorer returning, but again they do not play top notch competition like some of the other schools in NKY.

I saw where SK added Assumption and NCC in preseason and Male, NDA, Ryle, NCC, OC, South Oldham, North Oldham, and Highlands for reg season. I think Boone has a soft schedule compared to most of the top NKY schools.

Boone plays Boyle co & Russell (both teams have 4 girls on 2014 all state team) NCC, Ryle, HHS, St Henry, Campbell, brossart, Dixie. Not sure who they play yet in bluegrass games or soccerrama. Not quite as tough as NDA or HHS but not soft in my opinion.

Campbell County will have a very tough defense, with all-state Schwarber returning. The offensive players may be a little different and may take a little while to gel and score some goals. New GK for the Camels who saw some varsity time last year. She looks ready to step up and will greatly benefit from the brick wall in front of her. The Camels are a top contender for the region crown in 2015.

So since tryouts have not occurred as yet, how can it be said that they will be young. By my count there are close to 12 seniors to be that have seen varsity time at one time or another that are walking the halls. There are an additional 3 that played JV last year that would bring the total to 15. If all of these kids return, I am not sure that I would say that Highlands is going to be young. With all of this experience do they have a chance to win District, Region and State Crowns this year?

You are spot on, they have so many Seniors to be, that I can't see how he can keep them all on the team. And the poster who stated they will be young you will not hear from again, I think you know why. Maybe he has already talked with headcoach and they plan on going with the younger players this year. It seemed like last year he did not pay much attention to players in tryouts and had his mind made up already before tryouts, maybe he already has plans set for this year too.

My guess is that the reasoning behind saying Highlands will be young - like someone said earlier in the thread - seniors deciding to not try out for the team. Sounds like the issues some had with the head coach have not been resolved.

Highlands season will hinge on Brooklyn playing. How is St. Henry supposed to be? Who are the top players in the NKY area?
