Can we start with who are the top teams in Scott's half of the state in 4A?

 

Johnson Central is probably the favorite in their region this year.

I haven't seen Johnson in a few years, when JC beat Scott pretty badly in a couple of opening playoff games when Dave Campbell had taken over the program at Scott. But I would think JC would be a pretty big favorite if Scott and JC were to play. I could see Scott reaching a regional final, but getting past JC would be a pretty big step to take. Scott has the potential to be very good this year. We'll know pretty quickly as the schedule is definitely tougher.

^ I sure hope so for the Eagles. It is long overdue.

Bourbon will probably challenge for the district....albeit their talent is beginning to wane. Not sure what Holmes has coming back. The dark horse...laugh if you want will be Harrison co. They have a new coach...new attitude...alot of excitement. They have an extemely strong class of Juniors to be...that hasn't lost a game as Freshman or JV. Could be interesting.

This Scott team has the size, speed and talent to win it all. They have 2 great running backs. They just hired a new running back coach in Miles Simpson that will help them get a lot better.

I think on the East side of the state....the 4A championship run will have to go thru Paintsville. Johnson Central will be a difficult challenge. I know they're breathing a sigh of relief losing Highlands and Cov Cath to 5A

Scott has more speed than Highlands so it won't be easy for JC.

I am not quite sure who exactly should be playing quarterback this year for the Scott Eagles, but passing must be incorporated to be more successful.

 

Why is it that Scott is the only team that has to throw the ball to be more successful? No one mentions anything about Belfry needing to throw more...they threw 1 pass in the state championship game and had less passing touchdowns than Scott last year. Not throwing didn't stop them from winning. Just because you see NFL teams chucking the ball around and all over the field, doesn't mean you have to have the same formula to win in high school. There are plenty of teams across the country that run 99% of the time and win state championships.

 

I've said it before... if Scott threw the ball twice as much the last 2 years, they wouldn't have won as many games as they did. It's hard to be successful forcing your team to do something that doesn't fit the personnel they have.

I dont think it is it is so much they have to become a passing team but more of become capable of being a passing team. To have that in their arsenal would help them a ton when they find themselves playing from behind. To have a balanced offense is the best offense.

 

You are 100% correct when you say there are teams across the country that primarily run and win state titles, they also have an unstoppable running game. Scott hasn't won any state championships or even gotten down state yet it's not a slam against Scott but you know there is a big difference in the teams you talk about and any team in Ky.

I will agree,, I think they need a more diverse offense to really keep the defense guessing. I only got to see them play once last year against Cooper. Even though it may not have been their best game,, IMO their offense lacked the big play capability to get them back into the game once they were down.
