Who do you think will be the biggest threats to Scott in their quest for the title? Both in district and across the state.

Their lack of a defensive coordinator that can make in game adjustments.

Their lack of a defensive coordinator that can make in game adjustments.

They do have Casey Fisk helping coach defense and Miles Simpson is the running backs coach he played linebacker in college I am sure his imput will help.

Again, there are large schools across the country that run the single wing that win state titles. For example, Apopko High School in Florida, runs the single wing and has won the Class 8 title 2 of the last 3 years. I'm not saying Scott is going to win a state title. And no, you don't see the single wing much in college or the pro's (although many teams in college do run packages similar to the single wing..Auburn, Georgia Tech and Navy come to mind). But to say you can't win with it simply is not true because many teams do win with that offense.

And while I do agree that style of offense can be successful, the way I've seen Scott play over the years if a team gets up on them they cannot overcome score deficits. They try to go to s spread when they get down and they aren't able to throw to catch up. Throwing doesn't have to be the end all of their offense, but if you play a good team who can stop the run, you have to be able to throw. Just look at what happened against Cooper last year. I thought that was going to be a great game and once Cooper got up, Scott couldn't recover.

I don't think Scott's struggles haven't been an indictment on the offensive system. I think it's been more of an issue of their lack of depth, and inability to make a big play or two when needed. The Cooper game was the outlier last year...it wouldn't have mattered what system they were running....they just played terrible. It's hard for anybody to come back against a better team when you get down a few scores...and Cooper was simply the better team. All other losses were very competitive and ultimately those games were decided by execution at key times...a bad penalty or turnover that stops a drive, the inability to either convert a short 3rd or 4th down or to get a key stop on defense. This was a team that still needs to learn how to win and overcome adversity. Scott has basically won nothing over the history of the program, and really have only been competitive for the last 3 years. This years Senior class has experienced all of those years of success, and hopefully will be able to make those key plays this coming year.

That is a good point and something to think about. It does take time for kids to really learn to win and get other kids to buy in and play, establishing depth.

I thought Fisk helped coach over at Holy Cross?

He did. He started coaching at HC after being let go as Scott's head coach. He has always taught at Scott, and is now part of the football staff again this year.

Exactly and the "expect to lose" never enters their vocabulary. And the "play not to lose" never enters the field.

The other key point to staying competitive with lower numbers besides the injury bug, is the conditioning and stamina of these few athletes, that need to not only play both ways , but be a factor on both sides of the ball . Play after play. Last season , I did see some issues with the conditioning throughout the season , and I HOPE this season , they can keep that intensity up as it always is in July when the real practicing begins.

Yes . They have Fisk as a defensive line coach , and Dave Simpson and his son Miles Simpson will work together , as Dave will be Defensive coordinator and Miles Simpson, will work with running backs and linebackers . Brad Tucker is also added to the staff , as a coach . I think with the staff, and the returning players, Scott will be just fine come August.

Johnson Central, IMO, is a lock this year now that Highlands Ans CovCath have gone on to bigger and better things. Seems like every year JC talked about how it was the time to get over the hump of either HHS or CCH but always ended up losing to one or the other. JC is my EARLY prediction

Will see!

David Simpson has been the d-coordinator the past few years.

Yes. You are right , he has and I am saying he is now coaching with the help from his son , Fisk, and Tucker .
