I'm not saying SK doesn't have talent. My comment wasn't even directed at SK. It's directed at the belief of many that scheduling a super tough schedule in some way guarantees that you'll have post season success. Post season success is more related to how much talent you have rather than who you schedule. SK has had plenty of talent, as is evident by the success they've had and the number of players that have gone on to the next level. They just haven't had as much talent as the teams that have been winning and competing for state titles. Putting those teams on the schedule doesn't change that.

 

I would agree that if you don't have the players, your chances of winning are incredibly slim, but scheduling at least one 'top tier' game in the year can help reveal where you are weak, and where you need to improve. Plus it helps the team get a feel for playing against a stronger opponent, and teaches them to challenge themselves. It's easy to feel complacent with an undefeated record, only to get knocked out in the play offs by a team you never scheduled.

 

Now, given the chance for injuries and lowered morale, I don't suggest multiple opponents of this caliber, but everybody should attempt to schedule at least one.

Again I will be sitting comfortably with a grin on my face after SK once again gets embarrassed in the post season along yet again another early exit.

For example in the previous year Dixie Heights made it to the State Finals on the strength of their running game with little focus on their passing. In the finals, Trinity shut down the run, and Dixie couldn't handle the adjustment to passing. Scheduling Trinity or another member of the Super District would probably have made them realize this weakness early on and increase focus on their passing game.

Shrug. I think they'd have given them a better game. Plus, the late game long pass showed that Dixie was not incapable of good passing, just unpracticed. I think it is less of a 'round peg, square hole' than you suggest.
