It needs to be balanced, but there are many outside factors that are involve in scheduling that cannot be controlled....travel expense, common open dates, etc all play a part. But scheduling, IMHO, is also the most overrated aspect of a teams eventual succes (or lack thereof).

I never said they didn't practice, but they certainly didn't focus on it. I would agree that schedule is not the most important factor to a good season. I'd put it at 5th or 6th in a 'most important factors' list. However, it is a factor, even if a minor one, and should be considered. Scheduling one of the 'big four' isn't that difficult, though if it doesn't work out at least you made the attempt.

 

To bring it back on topic, I would have liked an SK/Trinity game.Too bad PRP and Lafayette volunteered for those open spots first.

Rushing: 576 att, 4406 Yds, 7.649 avg, 60 TD

 

They did use it in games.

And Dixie still wouldn't have beaten Trinity. And you can take it to the bank that Dixie's coaching staff knew their passing game wasn't great....that's why they were a running team. They didn't need to schedule Trinity or Male during the season to know that. Sure you could have tried to fit the round peg into a square hole, but ultimately, Dixie loses that game regardless. They weren't going to magically become a passing team because of who they played in the regular season. Dixie's schedule had zero impact on the result of the State Title game.

 

I agree...A very good field general (QB), an RB/Slot Back who had a career game, and good coaching adjustments for Trinity resulted in Shamrock success. The read option got Dixie to the championship. You don't adopt the run and shoot in less than a couple weeks looking ahead to change things up. Dixie could and did pass with success pre championship game...i.e winning the district championship against Ryle ( Drew Moore was 14-16, 145 yds and 2 TDs ).

 

I'd say one disadvantage to scheduling a non-district "power opponent" is the injury risk. For teams with depth with an inter changeable 1st and 2nd team position player. Have at it and throw down. Being "battle tested" has its advantages. However, for a team with little or no depth, strength of schedule is only relevant when you are playing in the BCS at the next level.

^ This is the first year they aren't playing a weak schedule. They have done well in district but out of district were to many gimmes and I don't think they recover from graduation. I was not overly impressed at our game last year and seen that they were way over hyped. We were young but not this year. Boone almost put one on them. Great teams don't play that way. Mediocre or good teams do. They are not great as advertised. Defense will be their achilles heel this year.
