Reading a book you deem bad

Featured Replies

Do you finish it or not?

I just read a book called the son, it was over 560 pages and it stunk and that is being nice.

I read it cover to cover. Not sure why.

I tend to do the same. I just finished a lenghty biography of Pope Francis, that bounced all over the place, quoted a thousand people, and had no flow.

Since it was written by an Argentine reporter, I suspect that much got lost in the translation.

However, I slugged it out and can say that I read it cover to cover.

Not always, but I often do.

Once I start a book, I finish it. But maybe that's because I buy everything I read and feel obligated to read what I have spent money on.

This.

I mentioned in a thread a while back that I was slogging through Nelson DeMille's "The Quest", in spite of it being the worst book I've ever read. He is my favorite author by a lot, what probably aggravated me more as I pushed through.

Clyde, on the other hand, had been known to bail on a book about 3 chapters in if he doesn't like it. We are in lock-step on many things, but this isn't one of them.

My solution: don't read books. :D

I read all 3 of the 50 Shades books to the end. Enough said.

I'll take "Statements That Surprise Nobody" for $400, Alex.

I'll give a book 3 or 4 chapters before I ditch it. Too many good books out there to waste time on something I'm getting no enjoyment from reading.

Word

Been a while since I have read a book to be honest. But if it sucks, I will put it down, I don't see the point unless it's critical for work or something.

Once I start a book, I will finish it...but, it might take a loooong time, AND I might read a book in between. I do most of my reading when I am traveling. Travel to Europe, all in can be 15 to 20 hours each way, so I have a lot of down time. If a book is really good, I will read it at home.

I should have said $200, that was a pretty easy one. ;)
