Owensboro 74 Bowling Green 58 (Sweet 16 Finals)

Featured Replies

Unbelievable run by bowling green, one of the youngest teams in the tournament. Final four and runners up in back to back years is nothing to scoff at. They never get the credit they deserve and that's ok, that's the way they like it. Congrats to Owensboro. Hell of a team that is coached as well as any and built to win in this tournament.

Pretty sure they were the preseason picked to win the Region.

Can't use the U.S. against them mentality when you are the favorite.

The best team won.

Agree. Congratulations to the Owensboro faithful!

Congratulations to Owensboro on a great State Tournament. Also looking forward to great things from Bowling Green…they made an awesome run. And another King of the Bluegrass team wins a State Champinship and KOB All-Tournament players Miller and Holman were awesome…as were all Red Devils. Coach Drake, we are so proud of you…nothing but class and the team reflects your personality. Always a winner.

I thought from the onset that owensboro was the best team in the tournament. Good to see them play well all tournament and win the title.

Speaking of Coach Drake, I think heard them say he was the first to win a state title as a player than head coach.

Congratulations to the players, coaches, family, friends and fans of "Senior High"

2015 Kentucky High School State Champions!

i believe they just said on radio that the coach is the first coach to win as a player and as a coach for the same school. Congrats!

David Henley was very close. He lost in the finals as a player 35-33 in triple OT and won as a coach.

Hopefully, this helps reduce the sting of the football debacle in the state final by the Red Devils.

In the 2 games I saw Owensboro play, they had the 2 big kids that really controlled the paint. In addition, the back court combo of Harris & Morrow were surprisingly (to me) outstanding. The comeback win against CovCath was really impressive & it sounds like they controlled this one too.

Congrats to the Red Devils! :thumb:

The comeback against CCH was nothing short of amazing. I don't think anyone expected them to be able to come back on CCH but they did and took control. Sign of a champion right there.

Congratulations to the Red Devils. Just like the 1980 championship season they took out a 9th Region foe in the semi-finals.

In 1980 Dwight Higgs and the Red Devils beat the Dicky Beal led Holmes Bulldogs in the semis. I can still remember that game. Holmes played the late game on Friday night and beat Ashland something like 97-92 and it may have been an overtime game, but not positive. The Bulldogs got in late and had to rise early the next morn, but OHS was too much.

Excellent run by the Red Devils.

He is the first to win as a player...and as a coach...at the same school.

Bob Mulcahy played at Lexington Lafayette in the 1950's and coached at Louisville Seneca in the 1960's...and won state championships as a player and a coach.
