Bowling Green 65 Calloway County 57 (Sweet 16 Quarterfinals)

Final. Terry Taylor is the Player of the Game.

Parker Adams makes the All Tournament Team.

Thanks for the ongoing updates PP92, they were invaluable. A region 12 and region 4 in the semi's. Sounds like I'll be there!

Good win for Bowling Green over a solid Lakers squad. BG is really flying under the radar in this tournament. :thumb:

Heck of a season for Calloway County. Win what I believe is just the 2nd Region title in school history, earn 30 wins, knock off Mr. Basketball in the opening round...very memorable season for the Lakers. Good team & great crowd. :thumb:

It has a bit to do with who they've had to go through and their lower profile compared to some of the favorites. But I see no reason at this point to believe that they can't win the whole danged thing. They wouldn't be my pick but they play very disciplined basketball and can make a run at any of these squads.

Definitely some truth to what they've had to go against so far, but I still really like Sine & Avery. They're a lot better than I expected they'd be.

Still, I think there will be too much Bell & Tyler.

I can't confirm it since my records only go back to 1964/65, but I believe this is almost certainly the most wins Bowling Green has ever had. They've had 29 on a couple of occasions, but as far as I can tell, never 30. Definitely not since 64/65. It took them a while and Central did not give it willingly, but the 4th Region belongs to Bowling Green now. They've now won 4 games in the Sweet 16 the past two years, more than the previous eight 4th Region champs had combined. They've won 3 of 4 and 4 of 7 region titles, and this year is probably the most impressive given how many sophomores they're playing.

Had to leave at halftime. Radio guys said BG switching to man after the break was the game-changer.

BG played the second half in another gear. Quite an impressive turnaround. I like Galloway's team but they were outmatched tonight.

PP , you going blood over water?

Calloway County reminded me a lot of CovCath tonight. Very disciplined, well coached team. Loved the way they played. Bowling green was just a little better tonight.

Lack of athleticism hurt Calloway in the second half. Bowling Green went to a tougher man-to-man defense and took control of the game. I was curious why Calloway stayed man-to-man on Bowling Green. Seemed like a zone that forced the Purples to shoot outside might have been more effective.

They upped the tempo and dictated the flow of the game where CC had dictated it in the first half. Good move by BG.

I definitely think man to man is tough to do against BG unless you really have the horses. I personally feel like it plays too much into BG's strengths to play man to man. They are a team that loves to get to the rim by driving the lane, with some post game mixed in. They are not a very good three point shooting team and they attempt relatively few. I think you have to play zone to force them to the perimeter. If they beat you there, well, crap happens. I think the man to man was a big factor in their incredible shooting percentage.

Boyle might be able to play man against Bowling Green because Boyle has some athletes. Calloway was a good team, very sound, but lacked athleticism. Bowling Green was able to take advantage. It will be interesting to see what strategy Boyle County uses.
