CovCath's staff adjusted, went into a 3-2 and broke every chance that they got. W/ about 2 minutes to go in the 3rd, Doss looked done physically. It went downhill fast from there. When I saw the 2 players linger back to the huddle at the end of the 3rd in a 1pt game, I knew it was over.

 

Are you sure it was coaching? Lots of NKY, non CCH folks on here posted back during the 9th regional tournament that, "coaching has nothing to do with it, the players determine the outcome."

Will Heppler's contributions were huge in the fourth. Sent out texts to three people during the quarter, giving him props! So happy for him!

Doss coach quote, "I can accept losing to a tough team like that". Seemed like a classy guy.

Big effort/contribution by Will Heppler in the second half in place of Schuh. Nice job young man. Nice to have kids that hit free throws near the end of games, certainly makes things a little easier.

 

One question though, why do the players squat down with their back to the basket prior to shooting their first free throw.

 

Big effort needed tomorrow against Owensboro, but the Blue Colonels are certainly capable.

3-2 or 1-2-2 or some zone defense that places your defense in position to stop dribble penetration is how you must defend Doss. Weaver and Gray in particular are very good finding gaps in a 2-3 or getting by their defenders on man to man. Stopping them in transition and working the zone to stop penetration with a key eye on the baseline short corner man is the best way. Sounds like Cov Catholic realized that.
