State Title Location

It is if you live in Eastern Ky, but not if you live in Western Ky.

No doubt. Lexington would be quite a trip for those from Mayfield and other western areas of the state. Numerous people think Lexington is geographically the center of Ky, once glance at a map proves that wrong.

I have mentioned before the last time the football state final in 4A was played at Commonwealth, Trinity battled Henderson County. The attendance was OK at best. The city of Lexington didn't support this like basketball.

The city of Louisville failed to generate the interest or $$$ to keep basketball here, so it moved to Lexington. Now, many folks take a whole week and spend it in Lexington regardless of who is playing. Can't say that same interest works in football. Football fans tend to support their team and not nearly as many folks will show up just for the sake of seeing who is playing.......

The turf is a definite advantage for Papa John's. I believe all state finals/ tournaments are awarded via the bid process. Whoever can guarantee the KHSAA the largest slice of $$$$ is going to the host. If Louisville builds an arena, watch the bidding war for basketball to resume full force.

If played at Commonwealth, the UK team could wonder on the field and lose to a high school team.... which would be too embarrassing.

Don't think this would happen. :D

And with a charge of $2 per ticket being assessed on every event at the new arena in Louisville, watch it stay at Rupp for another 20 years. Last I checked, the KHSAA makes a lion's share of its $$$ on boys basketball, and Rupp is expensive, the new place would be even more.

No way Commonwealth's field would hold up to four games in 2 days in December. Does it really matter that the games are in Louisville?

Word is UK may be going to sport turf in the near future...If that happens then they may rotate.

To some UK fans, yes. Some are so caught up in their silly anti-Louisville bias that they can't stand the idea of going there for any reason whatsoever.

According to Clark's Kentucky Almanac 2006, Marion County is the true center of the state.

Louisville for the turf. But I do like Comonwealth. I just think its a nice stadium and I love the grass there. I love attending game at UK but Louisville is nice also. I do like UK's the best but agree Papa Johns is better suited for the state finals.

There's more to a stadium than just grass. Commonwealth has its nice points, but it's a creaky relic when compared to PJCS.

It is played in Louisville because of the sports turf.

That is hard to believe with the school of Ag doing the field and only 6 games played there a year, no one else uses it. Maybe with the turf they will have concerts or something there. The Nutter outside field has it already.

I'd just as soon keep it at Papa John's especially since the annual T-X 4A final provides the majority of income from the finals. Regarding the geography issue, it's probably just as easy to get to Commonwealth from Western Ky as it is to PJCS when you consider roads and traffic. I think there are more people in Eastern Ky, than Western Ky also, so Commonwealth would be best for the greatest number of out state visitors. If you consider the Louisville population though, the best site is PJCS. Keep it where it is. Besides, it's the only reason I ever get to go to Louisville.

Actually, I think that Danville has a marker denoting it as the geographic center of the state.

Actually to add a little flavor to the debate of geographic center I would like to suggest its completely irrelevant!:p

You're talking a compass, as-the-crow-flies point. We all know theres not one road in KY like that:D

Personally, rather than debate which city it's in I would prefer a discussion of how they can make it more of an event and social gathering like the sweet 16:dancingpa

As it is, a huge majority of fans are only present for their own teams game and then they're outta there! The "Freezing Our Fanny" (FOF) principle is obviously a huge factor in that, being as it's December.:scared:

However, if KHSAA and some creative minds could/would start trying an approach like the NFL does for the Superbowl and the NCAA does for most of its various championships; basically come up with various themes, attractions, events, concerts, contests, & so forth to create an "EVENT" over just a couple days/nights, then I think you would see a dramatic increase in interest among everyone - including casual fans without a rooting interest. Besides, the KHSAA could maybe make more $$$$ as well

Otherwise, I wouldnt mind if they split up the games and played 2 at Commonwealth and 2 at the pizza box (Sat & Sun). Or even 1 each at E.Ky, W.KY, Lex & Lou (Fri, Sat am, Sat pm, Sun). Ohio splits their games up at various sites all over the state (or they used to)
