Was joking with my wife on Saturday about it being National Pi Day, that we needed to find a place that served pie while we were out and about.. Unfortunately the various places we were at or around, didn't serve pie. And the more we came up empty, the more I wanted it.

So today, when she was at Kroger, she stopped by their bakery and picked up a peach pie for me. Just had a slice, and am terribly disappointed. Way too much gel in it, and not enough peaches.

So, aside from your wife or you mom, where can John Q. Public pick up a great piece of pie here in Kentucky? I know the Smith House in Owenton used to serve some great pie, but haven't been there in probably over a decade. Anywhere else?

I've heard people say O'Charlie's has good pie, but I've never tied it myself.

Frisch's has good pie as restaurants go. Here in NKY., the Colonial Cottage also has a good pie selection (some better than others) as well.

I don't care for their ice cream at all...but the pies are really REALLY good.

Ugh...we were in Louisville on Saturday. Will have to look this place up, so that I know where it is the next time we're there.

In Lexington: Missy's or McGee's for whole pies.

Ramsay's always has homemade pie if you just want to go out for a slice.

I miss Perkin's, they had really good cream pies.

Always a good option for food!

I second that. I am a pie lover, probably my favorite desert. The best is usually a local "country" restaurant, like Martha's in Murray or the Woodshed in Hopkinsville, where they come fresh and homemade and are just delicious. However, The Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen is pretty darn good and has a huge variety.

Wallace Station, on Old Frankfort Pike between Versailles and Midway is another great place for pies and other deserts as well. The lemon chiffon and buttermilk are probably my two favorites there. Great sandwiches as well, just a good all around place to eat and a neat old building. They also have a big area to eat outside in the back and have concerts throughout the summer.

Frisch's has decent pies. The pumpkin is by far the best I think but is seasonal. I had a piece of their apple a couple of weeks ago and found it surprisingly better than I thought it would be. But to me that's about as far as it goes for them.

Their Key Lime Pie is delicious. And I don't even like Key Lime Pie.

My mother always raved about the key lime pie at Publix. Said it was the best she's ever had.

On Rt 31 right outside of Indy on your way to South Bend is a tiny little place called Lisa'a Pie Shop. The annual trip to a ND game is incomplete without stopping and getting a home made $10 pie........usually butterscotch for Mrs. OTB. ......cookies are outstanding also....

A must.........

In Bowling Green, Riley's Bakery is THE place to go. Judy's Castle also has a good peanut butter pie.

My goodness, Judy's is STILL around? First place I ever ate in BG during my high school college visit. Second place was Mary's, I know she's been gone decades.
