The reinstatement by baseball (if it happens) does not guarantee Pete will be in the HOF. Pete would likely have to be voted on by the Veterans committee and there may not be enough support for him.

 

I think Pete will be reinstated with restrictions. No on field activities such as Coach or hitting instructor. No paid Public Relations position. Maybe even a Probation period of a couple years in addition to those restrictions.

Pete will pass away before the Cubs win a World Series. They will wait til after he passes to put him in the HOF, so as to not give him the satisfaction and that's a shame.

If Pete would get out of his own way this might happen. He never will, so my guess is he will be dead and gone if it ever does.

Interesting read from the WSJ supporting Pete's reinstatement. Comes from someone who really doesn't seen to have any dog in the fight.

I just wish there was some middle ground here. I understand what he did as a manager, and it was wrong, and it's within their prerogative to ban him. However, you also can't deny what he did on the field, as a player, either. And, as rjs stated, the HOF has him all over the place anyway. So why can't they put him in as a player, and still ban him from baseball as a manager?

 

If you read the recent article that contained a bunch of quotes from John Dowd, the investigator who handled the Rose case, you get an idea why baseball is so reluctant to let him back in. Dowd is convinced that Rose bet (1) on the Reds and possibly against them and (2) while he was a player-coach. Pete may have also been involved in other bad things like drug trafficking as well. It is a shame but I don't think he is getting in any time soon. It is a shame because if Pete would have taken the initial deal baseball offered him, he would have avoided jail time and would most likely be in the HOF today. His own absolute stupidity did him in...

If I am baseball, I never let him on the field or be in any position that can impact a game. Baseball messed the whole thing up when they made the rule (after banning Pete) that a banned player is not eligible for the HOF. If they had not put that rule in, the Pete / HOF issue would have been resolved years ago and no one would care about Pete's reinstatement.

 

Pete did all this to himself. However, I believe baseball should be embarrassed by the way they changed the HOF rules after making the deal with Pete; and then second of all, they put the eligible for reinstatement after one year clause in the deal and blew that up almost immediately.

I didn't submit a vote in the poll although I do like it, think that's a pretty good question :lol2:. As for Pete, all I will say is that I certainly hope that he does get on the ballot and get voted in the HOF. Should they want to put a mention / note / asterisk on his plaque that he was originally banned for betting on baseball then I am fine with that. Pete, imo has paid his dues / deserved penalties but I just think that it is time, past time really for The Man With More Base Hits Than Anyone To Ever Play The Game Of Baseball Deserves / Should be In the MLB Hall of Fame.
