David Simmons

I figure I've seen David as many times as most people. He's a freak athlete (don't know about 46'' vertical, but regardless he's a freak), high energy, very strong and just dominated most all of the year. Obviously his ball-handling needs to improve and his shot, despite coming a long way, still needs some work.

That said the kid's future is very bright and I'd be shocked if he isn't at a mid-major school by the time he enters college based on everything I know.

Looks like a D1 cornerback.

David was offered to play for the Commonwealths top team (Hoop Dreams) by Q but turned down exposure in order to be with his hometown buddies of the Western Ky Hoopstars to become a more complete team with Henderson. He sacrificed exposure for chemistry.

I can confirm that David was offered a spot with us last year but declined. He's a good player and an awesome young man.

I love how people toss around D1. It's comedy.

Simmons right now isn't even listed as a prospect on any recruiting websites, that could be one of the problems. JaQualis Matlock had three D1 offers before the season began and he is in Region 2 as well.

I have seen Simmons play numerous times over the past few years and I have watched him grown and blossom into what he has become. That said, I would have to agree with Clyde on this one. I think he will be a D2 star because I don't see anything that separates him from most of the D1 point guards. I am hoping a school is gonna give him the chance. I think he can develop into a quality player at the next level.

It looks like Ky Wesleyan have offered him and he is being looked at by some smaller D1.

Having seen quite a few NAIA games this year I think people underestimate the talent level of D-2, D-3 and NAIA. D-1 is being thrown around in this thread like everything else not D-1 sucks and that isn't the case. There is nothing wrong with being a D-2 star and in a lot of cases being a D-2 star is way better than being a D-1 benchwarmer. There are 100 David Simmons playing D-2 and 1500 David Simmons playing D-1. I hope he finds a good spot for him to play and flourish regardless of the level.

I can't agree with you more.

My mind goes to Dominique Hawkins...sure he is a part of history right now and may very well win a national championship. But he is a benchwarmer. He would start for 80% of the D1 schools, but he doesn't.

You're exactly right. I had a good player that thought he could play D1. I took him to a NAIA game his junior year and he was blown away. He realized that he was not at the D1 level. He went on to a have a great career at a NAIA school. He was a great HS player.

I played at a NAIA school as well. It is tough.

I'm more amused by the 'NBA great Nate Robinson' line.

Gave me a good laugh as well

This is excellent.

No doubt. I see sooooo many kids that were truly excellent high school players that play 5-10 minutes a game for quality NAIA programs. People underestimate the talent level in all of college basketball on a daily basis. Any kid that is good enough to have a chance to play on a college basketball varsity team is one helluva player. I don't care what level it is.

People Big time underestimate what it takes to achieve at any level.

The NAIA is no joke. People really don't understand what it takes to play D1 basketball.

Everybody was a high school star that plays in college....at any level.
