Has HC rendered the All-A meaningless?

What facts because you say, the facts are there is an enrollment number they go by that's the facts and thats all the facts you need to know.

2015 Holy Cross Won All-A Champ, Won KHSAA Region

2014 Glasgow Won All-A Champ, Won KHSAA Region

2013 Owensboro Catholic Won All-A Champ, Won KHSAA Region

2012 Walton-Verona Won All-A Champ, Won KHSAA Region

2011 Owensboro Catholic Won All-A Champ, Won KHSAA Region

The facts are small schools are having no problem competing and the All-A is not doing what it was intended to do. And why the love affair with small schools and the All-A? Everyone thinks it's so special that all these small schools get together and play and it's this little slice of Kentucky. It may have been that 30 years ago. The same teams that win the All-A win their Region. What's so special about that? or more importantly, how is that more special than a big school doing it? Kids at big schools face even greater competition to make their team and work just as hard. So why the special treatment for small schools?

Can anyone honestly sit there and tell me the All-A is working as intended?

This is a pretty compelling post.

Not going back to this discussion, see all posts in the last 3 years if you want an answer to this. Just remember, it has been changed multiple times in the last and it is an invitational. Not bashing the tournament at all. I think it's a great concept that needs to evolve.

But I am curious to hear what you feel was the original intent then? And I would like to hear why you feel a very small group of kids deserve two chances to experience something that the majority of other kids don't. If you can compete otherwise (like the majority of teams that have perennial success in the A) why is there a need those kids to have a separate opportunity to win and experience something special whe the majority of other kids never ever get a chance to experience that feeling. I can name you countless of very large schools that have never won a thing. So why is so important to highlight teams and give them a "opportunity" when the majority of the time they are much better than several larger schools?? Are you telling me those kids "deserve" more chances just because they go to a small school??? In KY, you get one chance for a championship. Just the way it is. If your odds of winning that championship are the same as 80% of the rest of the schools in KY, why in the world do you feel it's okay to comepete in a tournament that gives your kids (and not other kids) a increased chance to win a championship??? Isn't that segregation?? If you can competed otherwise with the other 80%, then you don't need this "opportunity". No one else gets a second chance. Are your kids special??

And before you go there and it sounds like a couple of you are, it has absolutely nothing to do with whether my team is invited. I could care less. It's about the discussion and principal of it for me.

Make it for the true small schools that truly have legitimate struggles to compete and it awesome. If you can compete and have the same opportunity as 80% of the rest of the state, then you should only have the same chance to "experience success" as that 80%. It's how we do it in KY. If you don't like that, then let's go to classes. I'm fine either way! But I'm not fine with double dipping and providing a special situation for a very small number of kids that can compete just as easily as the rest of the state! That only doesn't make sense to the perennial winners because it's fun for you and your kids!

It only doesn't make sense to perennial winners? Really? Obviously it just doesn't make sense to you then. You talk about how its not fair to all these other schools who don't meet the criteria to be in it. However what exactly is fair about schools that only have 100 boys at their school to chose from to play basketball compared to schools that could have over 1000 boys to chose from bettering their odds of putting together a better team? Nothing fair about that either, and no real way you can argue that.

It just is really funny how the All A truly pains some adults who the results of it doesn't effect them at all. Some of you all keep acting like by having an All A State Champion that it takes away from the KHSAA State Champion in some way and it doesn't. You can ask any kid in the state and they all would say if they had a choice on which one they would rather win they all would say the KHSAA because of the chance to play in Rupp and be declared the best team in the WHOLE STATE. The All A Classic does nothing to take away from that. All it does is gives schools as I mentioned earlier who are at a complete unfair advantage compared to others at putting a good team together because of lack of boys to choose from a chance to make a run of their own. A chance to say they are the best team in the State in terms of whatever criteria is set by the All A. So the fact that some of you adults is so bothered by that is amazing. The All A State Champ is exactly that just the All A State Champ, not to be confused with the KHSAA State Champ.

So you listed what 4 schools out of how many schools that play in the All A that have proved that in some years they can also compete with the big schools and that proves your point? 4 schools? Really? Yeah there are some years when a small school in a region can make a run, and since those schools in some years can make a run, that means all the other schools in the All A who participate in trying to prove that they are the best small school in the State should have that taken away from them? Yeah makes sense.

As I just said in the previous post the All A takes nothing away from the KHSAA State Tournament. Just like NCC in the boys would have probably gladly traded their All A State Championship to have play in the State Tournament at Rupp because that is the one that matters the most. So if the All A doesn't take anything away from the KHSAA tournament, then why do adults that it doesn't effect at all have such a problem with it?

Here's an interesting observation: the only people gnashing their teeth over the All A, are those who don't participate. In the last 2+ years of this constant drivel, I've yet to hear someone from Dayton/SilverGrove/Calvary/Latin/Villa/NameYourSchoolThatDoesn'tHaveAChanceToWin complain that the tournament is "not fair". It's comical.

As one wise sage once said, "there's golf to played and tennis to be served".

LET...IT...GO.

:lol2: This is the most comical statement I've read on this thread yet, because I know factually I could call people 'from' almost all of those schools you are describing right now and they would agree that the structure is flawed.

It doesn't pain me at all. As far as not fair for the larger schools, that's not really my beef either. I just use that to show you that there are plenty of schools (regardless of size) that can't compete either. So why do only a certain few get a second opportunity?

As for the schools that you are asking about with only 100 boys...well if that's a public school...those 100 boys are much different than the 100 boys that chose to go to the private school. Do you disagree with that? I'm not trying to make this a public vs private debate. I'm saying it could be part of the solution...along with other solutions I proposed in this and other discussions.

I believe that right now the current set up for the all A is 'the smallest ____ (number) schools'... Not even an enrollment cutoff number.

So you listed what 4 schools out of how many schools that play in the All A that have proved that in some years they can also compete with the big schools and that proves your point? 4 schools? Good point. They also now think it's all a KHSAA conspiracy. ha ha ha. I have no horse in the race either way, but still think the All A is great. Not sure if those complaining have allegiances to the smaller All A schools who haven't been able to win an All A region title yet, or if they are from the biggger schools (non A) and are just jealous they can't participate. Either way, they really have no argument. The All A has been doing just fine statewide more than 20 years now.

Fine. U want a deep dive? Let's go.

2011 ALL A

Champ Owensboro Cath - won KHSAA Region Champ

2nd Monroe Co. - lost KHSAA Region Champ

3rd Lex Cath - lost KHSAA Region quarter

4th NCC - won KHSAA Region Champ

Only once in the last 5 years did a Final Four All-A team fail to make it to KHSAA Regionals. 8 KHSAA Regional Championships + 3 more as KHSAA Regional Runner-ups.

and oh yea - out of the 20 "slots" available in the ALL-A Final Four the last 5 years, only 11 different teams have made it. Owensboro Cath - 5 appearances, NCC 4 appearances, Brossart and Gallatin 2 each.

Don't tell me the All-A is a tournament for the little guy who can't compete. Don't tell me small schools need the All-A to experience something they may not get to do.

The All-A is not doing what is what designed to do. Fix it, get rid of it, or go to KHSAA classes.

First bold...comical.

Second bold...neither

Third bold...its a discussion and we are making points that it's flawed over time based on what it was intended for.

Let's get this out since we don't tend to get answers. Let's start here.

For those in favor:

What is the intent of the All A? You tell us.

Why would removing private schools be such a bad thing?

Why would lowering school enrollment for eligibility be a bad thing?

Why would finding a solution, such as "grading teams strength year to year" or "forcing teams to choose one or the other" be a bad thing?

Fine. U want a deep dive? Let's go.

Very similar to the results I found and I think I went back even further.

This one answer (all of the bold) will cover it all: It's not your call!

It's not affiliated with KHSAA so forcing any team to choose is not going to happen, nor is it necessary.

Debate away my friend. You hate the private schools. You want your young athlete to experience the success of a title. Here is your solution: Adjust the enrollment so only your team is eligible to participate. They can then schedule a time for the trophy presentation. I bet you can have it arranged so your child is named MVP!

Any other facts missed here?

Wow! You obviously don't know me or read much that I write. You are WWWWWWWAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY off base. But good try!
