But again...kinda proves my point. They haven't won it in at least 20 years. So again, no one is winning a lot of regions. Why do we need a "special" one for someone to win? Seems like everyone but Montgomery Co is in the same boat and dealt the same hand.

So everyone that hasn't won the big regional tourney in 20 years should be eligible for the All A tournament?

First bold...And the bolded is fun and I'm right there with you! Love it!

 

Second bold...It's supposed to be difficult. It's the state championship and the state of KY only crowns 1 winner. It's not supposed to be easy to get there. Only 16 of 300 plus get there! And I think only 30 different teams (not even sure if it's that many, did that research last year) have ever won it. It's not easy. It's made to be an elite accomplishment if you do.

Second bold...you're right. It's extremely difficult, and extremely exclusive. I'm ok with that. I love the Sweet 16. However, the All A allows a subset of schools the opportunity to experience a statewide tournament .. feted upon like the KHSAA tourney, with hotel stays and post-game press conferences, etc .. that in all likelihood, is their only opportunity. Sure .. there are teams that experience both the All A and the state tournament .. but the number who DON'T, that only experience the All A, far exceeds the number that do.

 

You need to look at the All A tournament in its totality, not the few who win it. It's still a fantastic EXPERIENCE that most will not enjoy at the KHSAA tournament (and no .. I'm not about the "everybody gets a medal" mentality .. please don't go there!). Obviously, the idea is to WIN the tournament, but the 15 participants who DON'T win (in either tournament) will tell you a lifetime of stories about being there, whether a first-round exit or a championship game loss.

I'm saying if only a very few teams in a large region are having success, why do we need to take a very small portion of that region and give them special opportunities. You say, so they have a chance. I'm saying in that region, no one but Mont Co has had a chance (with a few exceptions here and there) in 20 years! Why pull out just a special few if 99% of the teams are in the exact same predicament.

I agree with all of that. My point of emphasis is getting it to the true Non-competitive schools year in and year out. Really make it for those schools that you mentioned. I got off on a separate tangent with some of the questions coming from a few posters.

Only once in the last 5 years did a Final Four All-A team fail to make it to KHSAA Regionals. 8 KHSAA Regional Championships + 3 more as KHSAA Regional Runner-ups.

 

and oh yea - out of the 20 "slots" available in the ALL-A Final Four the last 5 years, only 11 different teams have made it. Owensboro Cath - 5 appearances, NCC 4 appearances, Brossart and Gallatin 2 each.

 

Don't tell me the All-A is a tournament for the little guy who can't compete. Don't tell me small schools need the All-A to experience something they may not get to do.

 

The All-A is not doing what is what designed to do. Fix it, get rid of it, or go to KHSAA classes.

 

Well I am here to tell you the tournament is for the small schools so there you go. So shame on the big schools who didn't beat the little schools in those years.

uh no, but he's making accusations that are way off base, especially if he knew me. Read what I replied to, not what I said. I am referring to my beliefs and him saying I want my Susie to get a trophy and I'm upset she hasn't. Again, nothing further from the truth and if he knew me, he would know that. That's all I'm saying.

 

BTW...Both my Susies do have a regional title...but in a different sport.

But WE can make suggestions for change. I bet that's how some of those other enhancements evolved over the years. You guys ask "why change it?" It's been changed multiple times over the years! I say "why not change it". Are you afraid of change?

Tournament is fine just the way it is now. It's for the smaller schools.
