Yes, that would be fun - a Hoosiers like run by a small school. We can all appreciate that. Except it's not happening. For the last 5 years, the All-A Champ has also won their KHSAA Region and gone to State:

 

2015 Holy Cross Won All-A, Won Region

2014 Glasgow Won All-A, Won Region

2013 Owensboro Catholic Won All-A, Won Region

2012 Walton-Verona Won All-A, Won Region

2011 Owensboro Catholic Won All-A, Won Region

 

Look at that. Do you know how many big schools they had to defeat to win their region? Competing on a big stage isn't a problem. Start seeing the All-A for what it is. Re-read the above stats and then re-read RCC9 below:

Here's an interesting observation: the only people gnashing their teeth over the All A, are those who don't participate. In the last 2+ years of this constant drivel, I've yet to hear someone from Dayton/SilverGrove/Calvary/Latin/Villa/NameYourSchoolThatDoesn'tHaveAChanceToWin complain that the tournament is "not fair". It's comical.

It's just a discussion. Like I said, I know it's not going to change. But let's be discuss it and admit what it really has evolved to. I just don't agree with where it has evolved to. We hear how great it is, but that always seems to come from the teams that win it year after year. Or have had some success. I agree having the success when you typically don't compete is an unreal feeling for sure. I get it. I'm not against the tournament at all. I just feel it's not as fun for the majority as some of you make it out to be.

 

As far as hearing from them, you don't hear anything from anyone from those schools on this board, besides the few Ludlow fans that showed up recently. So are you surprised you don't hear anything really? How much bashing would they get if they did speak up against it???

 

Again, it's just discussion. It's what we do. My life will go on whether there is an A or not. It's just a debate. We don't need to get upset. If you don't want to debate it, then don't answer. Debates usually happen when you have two different opinions and multiple people on both sides of the fence.

We aren't getting the answers or any facts back from the rest of you to support what you're saying. All you say is "it's a great experience". Well sure it is for the same teams that win it every year!

Again, attack someone else's opinion when you have nothing to support your argument. That's what happens when, as Dallas says, you start to get closer to the truth. You are willing to debate until you run out of answers or are shown facts. It's the "take my ball and go home" mentality. Or the "sweep it under the rug" because these guys are starting to make a good case and exposing the real meaning of the tournament. Its the "Benghazzi of Basketball!" (before you get mad, I'm just kidding)

 

I'm okay either way. Call it what it is or get it back to what it was intended for.

 

At the end of the day (and we have said this before), the A has turned into a way to keep the pressure off the KHSAA to move to classes in bball. They love it because they can use the A to their benefit when they need to keep teams happy, but wash their hands of it when it comes to things that go against their process or something that would create a segregation issue.

I have and don't remember the results. But I do remember that over the (how ever many years of the state on the girls side) there were very few winners in the grand scheme of things. My point is, using an argument that they don't win state is not really a good one. Because only like 10% of the teams have ever won a state on the girls side.

Well, Silver Grove doesn't have a team, so there's that.

Not going back to this discussion, see all posts in the last 3 years if you want an answer to this. Just remember, it has been changed multiple times in the last and it is an invitational. Not bashing the tournament at all. I think it's a great concept that needs to evolve.

 

But I am curious to hear what you feel was the original intent then? And I would like to hear why you feel a very small group of kids deserve two chances to experience something that the majority of other kids don't. If you can compete otherwise (like the majority of teams that have perennial success in the A) why is there a need those kids to have a separate opportunity to win and experience something special whe the majority of other kids never ever get a chance to experience that feeling. I can name you countless of very large schools that have never won a thing. So why is so important to highlight teams and give them a "opportunity" when the majority of the time they are much better than several larger schools?? Are you telling me those kids "deserve" more chances just because they go to a small school??? In KY, you get one chance for a championship. Just the way it is. If your odds of winning that championship are the same as 80% of the rest of the schools in KY, why in the world do you feel it's okay to comepete in a tournament that gives your kids (and not other kids) a increased chance to win a championship??? Isn't that segregation?? If you can competed otherwise with the other 80%, then you don't need this "opportunity". No one else gets a second chance. Are your kids special??

 

And before you go there and it sounds like a couple of you are, it has absolutely nothing to do with whether my team is invited. I could care less. It's about the discussion and principal of it for me.

 

Make it for the true small schools that truly have legitimate struggles to compete and it awesome. If you can compete and have the same opportunity as 80% of the rest of the state, then you should only have the same chance to "experience success" as that 80%. It's how we do it in KY. If you don't like that, then let's go to classes. I'm fine either way! But I'm not fine with double dipping and providing a special situation for a very small number of kids that can compete just as easily as the rest of the state! That only doesn't make sense to the perennial winners because it's fun for you and your kids!

Has nothing to do with other kids being special it has to do with were kids go to school. I have said multiple times...It has nothing to do with my kid or not. I am a firm believer of getting better and playing the best. Not creating ways for kids to be successful that have that opportunity to do so. So no, I don't care about whether my kid has this opportunity. If you knew me at all, you'd know thats 100% the truth. I would tell her to get better if she wanted the opportunity and play by the same rules as everyone else. I believe in one champion...and yes even if that meant football. I guess I'm old school. You are the champ or you are not. Not the champ when there are multiple opportunities to be a champ. I can deal with classes because that's where we've gone as a society. But I don't like "special situations" for some and not others. Either we are a class state or we aren't.

 

If Bellevue beat HHS in a given year, I would have no problem with it. They have an up year and HHS has a down year or they are just flat out better that hear, then have at it. But it's not the one hit wonders that I'm addressing. There is no doubt that a small school could have an outstanding group of athletes come through together and have a great career. But that is not going to be the trend at the kind of schools you are talking about. So if a team is able to compete in one year, now we are talking about exceptions.

Facts and stats on the winner and the success they are able to have regardless of the school size. I did a ton of research a couple years back and it's the same 1-2 teams, sometimes 3 (in all regions) that win every year. Of course there was an exception here and there. But the other discovery was that those same teams to floated to the top of the A every year are also very competitive year in and year out in their regular region. I'd have to go back and find it or you can just believe me. But I did do it and posted it on here somewhere.

The just kidding was the reference to Benghazi...wasn't trying to offend anyone, just being funny...or at least I thought I was.

I get all your points but you can say that about a lot of teams and regionals, just like the boys 9th region it looks like its going to be the CovCath invitational for a few years to come. I just think no matter what its like that way in a lot of things, football same way HHS, Trinity, and NCC all pretty much end up in the finals. To be honest they need to do it year to year like OHIO where ever your enrollment is thats the division you play in.
