formerkywrestler Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 In what shouldn't be a surprise to anyone we are heading out to see this one tonight. Anyone else?
bugatti Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 I thought the previews made it look terrible.
GreyFox Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Looks like a typical feel Good movie based on a true story with a lot of Hollywood embelishments going on to make the story better than the real thing. I will wait for redbox.

AverageJoesGym Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 It looks like they remixed Remember the Titans, 42, The Rookie, Coach Carter, The Gridiron Gang and Miracle but made it about cross country. I'll wait until it hits HBO.
All In Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Bombed at box office. Will be available for download shortly would assume. Would love to see Costner as a lead in a show on HBO,FX or AMC, a western-type would be preferred, but think his range could pull off anything drama-wise. Don't know what his agent is thinking sometimes with his choice of roles lately
Bengal Maniac Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 We saw it tonight and thought it was outstanding. It is a feel good movie, but kept our attention throughout.
HOMELESS CAMEL Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Costner's only decent film in last 20 or so years was Mr Books. Reading articles about the film, this school has gone on to win 10 state championships since 1987 and because of that, have been moved up in classification in California. They are being forced to compete against schools with 2-3 thousand enrollment when they only have a few hundred. Not sure how much Hollywood exaggerated or embellished, but at least the core story is true.
Mack The Knife Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 From what I have read this is not a formulaic Hollywood sports film...
born2reign Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I absolutely loved this film! It is one of the better sports films I have seen in years. Great story!

GreyFox Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Costner said that he was from the same area this school was and felt drawn to it based on that and the story. Costner said he played against them when he was in high school playing Baseball.
formerkywrestler Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 I thought it was very well done. It's a Disney sports movie and filled with cliches but it accomplishes it's mission of presenting the story and pulling at the heartstrings. Costner handled the role well and played the racial implications with a deft hand. I honestly thought I would be disappointed but the sappy, sweet stuff came natural and felt earned. I think the best part is the sense of family and community you get, you can tell that this place, a place with REAL problems desperately wants something to be proud of. Definitely give it a thumbs up and worth the watch.
Godot Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I haven't had a chance to see it yet. Don't know if I'll get to see it in the theater because of the weather, my schedule, and the girlfriends new job schedule, but as a cross country runner in high school, and coach when I was teaching I am definitely looking forward to see it.
Pegasus 30 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 We loved it. What stuck out to me was the strong work ethic the families had and how they taught their children this work ethic. I keep pointing out to my son how these boys worked (hard work) before and after school but still found time to participate in a sport. The sport did not drive their schedules. I saw an interview with the three Diaz brothers and they continue to impress me on how they give back to the community.
