I agree with everyone, but I will throw this out there too. Each elderly was an individual and probably had no idea he didn't make anything all day. It's not like Mable called Greta and started a conspiracy! (lol) The majority probably called him because they couldn't shovel and couldn't pay. Most are probably in a situation that if someone doesn't do this, they are stuck and when someone offers, they take advantage of it.

 

I am surprised that none of them offered though. That's a lot of opportunities to get no offer. I usually find the elderly to be generous when you help them out. Now sometimes their "amount" is not in line with the going rate, but usually still offer something.

 

With that said, what a man! I know it doesn't help his wallet right now, but what a great guy. First, having the initiative to go out and do anything to support his family and then to honor his word at all those locations. That's just tremendous! I too would buck up for the fundme thingy!

I had the young man come over yesterday and shovel the additional 4 inches or so we got yesterday morning and gave him $30.00, which was more than he was asking for. He told Sarah (my gf daughter) that not only did he not get anything form the 30 driveways they cleared yesterday, but that only a couple of the households even said "thanks". Have we gotten that bad as a society?

Just a sign of the clientele IMO. Old people seem to get increasingly rude, inconsiderate, and down-right mean once they hit a certain age, but that's probably a topic for a different discussion.

I'm still stunned at the number. How far did he have to roam to do that many elderly? What kind of area is it? If it's a poorer neighborhood I supposed there could be that many elderly struggling so much they couldn't offer him something. Sad all the way around.

I have to believe had they known how many he would end up doing for free some of them would have offered him something, assuming they had the means.

I was just getting ready to say that. I do feel bad for the guy but he shouldn't have offered it then. I would have given him some money but if you are offering it for free... :idunno:
