Music at the BOK is WAY TOO LOUD!!!

Featured Replies

I think that most here know that I'm a big time music lover. Have always loved to jam out, go to concerts etc..., but I also use stuff like classical music turned down super low to peacefully drift off to sleep either at night, or maybe even for an afternoon nap. Keeps me from listening to the voices in my head, and allows me to stay in a hypnotic peaceful state where I can maximize the minutes that I drift away without interruption.

There's a time and a place for all kinds of music.

The idea that "loud" is where it's at really IMO just doesn't hold true all the time. Sometimes painfully loud can just ruin a good song, where if it was just turned down a few notches it could be so much more enjoyed.

I've no problem with the BOK rockin' some jams during warmups and halftime for the high school games that they hold there, nor would I suggest that they not have music, but honestly does it have to be SO RIDICULOUSLY LOUD!!!???

Personally, I attend these games with my brother because we both love basketball, and it's not at all uncommon for us to have pre-game, during games, and halftime discussions, analyzing the action.

When the BOK is rockin' their jams so loud that we literally have to scream while sitting directly next to one another, then it is just downright ridiculous and draining, and basically lends its hand in ruining the experience.

I have to give up and run to the corridors just to try to escape the overly painful loudness, and even in doing that, it's not enough... as there's just no escaping it while you are in attendance.

I'd have a hard time believing that I'm the only one who feels this way as I see tons of people around me that are trying to enjoy the experience with their friends and family. They undoubtedly have to scream too to try to chat with the person sitting next to them.

If I feel this way, just how does the 75 year old man feel who has shown up to watch his grandson play? I just can't imagine that he's diggin' it... and I see numerous seniors in attendance.

Please BOK drop the music a few notches so that it can still be heard and enjoyed, all the while allowing those humans in attendance who probably came for a basketball game, and not a rock concert, to be able to fully enjoy the experience. You already do enough as it is to destroy it making fans drop $10 for a Hot Dog and a Pop.

When sound people at parties, concerts, activities, clubs, functions etc... don't have a good understanding of proper sound levels for the event, to me it just screams how ignorant, pedestrian, and classless they are not to have a grip on this. Sometimes too loud can help ruin the music and the experience of the event.

I've been to some high school gym that seem to have it right and it can create a fun vibe, but with that said some can have the most awful sound system that it's out of this world "Treble Hell", but they'll blare it anyway to the point it feels like needles constantly puncturing one's ears and brain.

What gives?

TURN IT DOWN!!!

I don't know if the general public is now just numb to this because it's so common, but I can't believe that I'm the only one who feels this way.

I've literally gone to managers of movie theaters while they're blaring the never ending previews to other movies to ask them to please turn it down.

I don't mind watching trailers, but within them the sound effects are meant to create excitement to lure people to want to see the film, and the louder it is and goes through my head, the likelihood that I'd even entertain the idea once I've been drivin' to the edge become highly doubtful.

Ram your previews down my throat, and I just ultimately tell you to stuff it.

I'm sitting in my theater seat and I'm not going anywhere, and you've got my attention, now respect me and present your previews in a civilized fashion.

I suppose most just take it as that's just the way it is, but the minute they start blaring them, the movie theater manager is hearing from me. If I've got anything to say about, then I'm going to, and the idea that it's just the way it is doesn't hold water with me.

Please tell me that we all just haven't become a culture that's buying into the idea the louder is always better, and that I'm a minority here that's just going to have to accept it for what it is. If the BOK gets the idea that lots of people don't dig it, how hard would it be for them to turn it down? Some might think that it's not a worthy cause, but if I'm spending 4 hours in the facility, please for the love of God, don't make it 4 hours of torture, especially when it really doesn't have to be, and it could really just be a good time through and through for the entire duration.

Remember, it's a basketball ball game, and not a rock concert.

Please BOK...

TURN IT DOWN!!!

I think you could have just said the music was to loud, and that would have sufficed.

I agree. Pet peeve of mine is music too loud at an event. It is just annoying how loud some places play it. I don't mind a little volume, but if I can't talk to the person sitting next too me it is way too loud.

Yeah... like that's gonna happen.

Sometimes less is more. I guess that works for the volume of music too.

BOK is a nice venue. Just not anywhere near my top choice for a high-school basketball game, for a number of reasons.

You're officially a member of the Clyde camp.

This is a clear sign that most BGPers are getting old!!

I just knew that this would come up.

I guess that I was asking for it.

It has been said that "If it's too loud, then you're too old".

Oh Well. :idunno:

I'm not terribly far from the Clyde camp either.

I think that it's a great experience for the 9th region teams to prepare themselves for the Rupp atmosphere.

I'm not at all wild about paying the concession prices, and more than not try to make sure that I'm adequately fed before attending, and sneak in a bottle of water, and keep refilling it at the water fountains.

I hate that trapped feeling while perusing the menu and prices of not seeing one thing on it that comes anywhere near being anything that couldn't be categorized as a rip off, and me feeling like a sucker if I by chance give in.

Sure, inflated arena prices are nothing new, but they'll never come a day where I'll accept it as fair. Not only that, they don't even offer anything slightly healthy.

Funny thing is that after the first 9th/10th Region tournaments were held there in 2009, I received a questionnaire in my inbox from the BOK asking for suggestions.

I made a plea for them to offer something healthier at their concession stands, and suggested something like a turkey wrap with lettuce and tomatoes. I sorta presented it with a "Build it and they will come" mentality, or that people only eat the unhealthy stuff because it's the only thing offered.

Much to my surprise, while attending the tournament in 2010, sure enough they offered turkey wraps. I couldn't believe it and had to wonder if it was all because of my suggestion, or if others had also suggested healthier items. They were about 6 bucks, but since at least they were healthy, I bought one to support the idea of them having them. It's wasn't bad. I'm guessing that I was the only one to do so because after that tournament I never saw them offered ever again. I suppose the general public is content with overly salty, overly priced, overly bad for your health items.

At least games held at high school facilities are more than fair when it comes to their concessions, and you don't feel raped just for grabbing a dog and a pop. They don't typically promote healthy items either, but at least it's not overpriced.

I avoid paying the parking prices at the BOK, and park elsewhere requiring of me only a short walk. No big deal unless there's ice on the ground. But then again, if the weather's that bad to begin with I'd probably reconsider attending anyhow.

This is just me, but I don't really miss the long drives to Conner and Ryle, but Holmes was so easy for me that I could walk from my place. I do miss the environment of holding the regional tournaments at the high schools, but for the sake of the teams it's better preparation for them to have it at the arena. There's been 6 9th Region tourney's so far at the BOK and two State Champs in that period. The 9th has only produced 3 in the history of the Sweet 16. There's something that can be said for that.

I can work around the parking and concession issues that I have with the place and deal with that however I do, but if they could just turn their music down it would make a world of difference.

What sports fanatic while at a game doesn't like to turn to their buddy and comment on the action? Should he be made to lose his mind, and his vocals chords for having to scream the entire night in the process?

I just knew that this would come up.

I know...right?

I've tried asking my 20 year old self about the sound level at the BOK, and giving an honest answer.

My 20 year old self, and his buds are excited that they're playing some of our favorite rockin' tunes, but the eternal B-Ball-fan in me even back then would have to cry overkill for not being able to talk about the game some without screaming my head off.

Maybe I'm fooling myself, but I still think that I'd be calling for a happy medium. I've no problem with throwing in some jams into the mix of a good time. Just do it with good taste and good sense.

yeah bball fan you're old, like three weeks more so than me.

Maybe like Sheldon, you should do a seat sound check around the arena before making final choice.

I was three rows behind CCH bench and didnt notice, but then again I am a lot younger.

I think you could have just said the music was to loud, and that would have sufficed.

That's just not how B-Ball-Fan bounces. :)
