Alabama police brutally injure an elderly Indian man while he was walking

Featured Replies

Madison police last week roughed up a 57-year-old Indian citizen who was walking on the sidewalk outside his son's home, leaving the older man temporarily paralyzed and hospitalized with fused vertebrae.

"He was just walking on the sidewalk as he does all the time," said his son, Chirag Patel, this morning. "They put him to the ground."

No crime had been committed. Madison Police on Monday issued a statement saying the department had suspended the officer and were investigating the use of force in this case. The police statement wished the man a "speedy recovery."

Very sad situation. I hope he makes a full recovery.

I must admit that I am suspicious of the validity of the officer's statement.

This doesn't pass the smell test. Feel terrible for the guy either way.

Moral of the story: Don't be black or brown in certain neighborhoods.

The city is going to have to cut a big check on this one...and rightfully so...

Not on topic, but how many people consider 57 elderly?? I don't...

There's video of the encounter. I'll wait to judge it based on the complete investigation. You'd think others here would have learned that things aren't always what they seem.

Story said their was audio and video of what happened. If officer is fired I think we can easily assume that he acted in an improper manner and will probably face prosecution.

If he is not fired I think we'll have to wait until we see the video to see if his actions were reasonable.

Everyone under 30 does :lol2:

I agree with this. And you never know how it's portrayed in the paper or on the news. It's all about the wow factor. And a video would explain if the actions of the man warranted his treatment. Something ain't kosher with the whole story like HT said.

Not even close to being elderly. Prime time!

Maybe 20 years ago. Not so much these days.

Very swift reaction by the police department.

The police officer has been arrested for assault and the police chief intends to fire him. The FBI is also investigating the incident. Sounds like the guy couldn't understand what the officers were saying to him so rather and take the time to figure it out the guy just slammed him on the ground. His tone changes quite a bit once he realizes the man can't walk. Here's a link that contains the video:
