If Bellarmine takes a kid they're usually can play D1. Definitely think Bellarmine would be favored if they played NKU.

 

A few may be able to play D1. Very few.

 

Brent had a crazy good career in no way is he close to D1. He can't get minutes now.

I apologize, I skewed this thread and didn't comment on Mr. Weyer. It was about him and should continue to be. He's a very nice player and I wish him the best opportunity available to him, whatever that means to him and his family. As for the other discussion Clyde, I'll just agree to disagree but respect your right to voice your opinion.

Vermont has been to the NCAA tournament 6 times since 2003 and have either won the regular season or conference tournament championship 9 times in that span. I'd also argue that their conference (American East) is better top to bottom than the A-Sun.

 

NKU is no where close to the level that Vermont is...IMO, of course.

I really liked watching Weyer this past Friday. Moves well, polished with his back to the basket or facing up, quick release, hustles, rebounds well. Hope to catch a NCC game in the regional to see him play again.

I like what you said about polished with his back to the basket or facing up. At 6'6" Ben has done something many taller kids his size or even a bit bigger have failed to do....learn to play with his back to the basket in the post. So many kids his size are obsessed with playing the wing, but fail to develop any type post game. Ben is able to do both and it makes him so much more valuable to his coaches. I see way to many 6'6" or taller high school players that refuse to work on a post up game. With that size it is a bonus to play out on the floor, but still retain a post up game.

I think Ben is a good high school player, one of the best in area. Whether he can play Division I basketball remains to be seen and at what level of D-1. I do not think he is a UK type player, but he could play at small D-I level for sure.

That 6'6" to 6'8" size is the tweener size in college. The higher the D1 program the more likely you need to get closer to 6'8" or taller to play the post and 6'6" or smaller is a wing. As you slide down to Mid-Major and Lower D1 then it does seem like a sliding scale in size to play the post. You cannot do much about changing your height, but by adding both post and wing skills it can only help in making you more attractable wherever you might land which is what Ben appears to have done. Hats off to him for being versatile and becoming a very good high school player that has both an inside and outside game to his credit.
